Who will have the most success in 5 years? Celtics video with Scal/Perkins.

I thought this was interesting and fun to share. Loved the commentary between Scal and KP, they have a lot of chemistry and while I wasn't too high on KP due to his really weird hot takes. I'm starting to grow on him.

So if you haven't seen the video, it goes like in 5 years who would have the most All-Star appearances, MVP awards, Defensive 1st Teams, highest Jersey sales and Rings - between the following listed players.

I also thought it would be cool to share our own takes. Feel free to homer as much as you want lol.

My take:

MVP: Luka - Top 3 conversation right now, but Scal is correct... Will they have the top 3 Western conference? Can Cuban put the 3rd star next to them?

All-Star: Trae Young - Could see him starting guard All-Star selection for the next 5 years. He's that talented.

Defensive 1st Team: Ja Morant or JT - Toss up, Morant has a good motor, seems slightly wiry, but very aggressive and very prideful. (Didn't know where else to put Morant anyways lol.)

Jersey Sales: Zion - No explanation needed

Rings: JT -

As of this second, I think I like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as a player more than I do Ja Morant. It's close. I want to see another year of development before making a long term decision on that. SGA sucking in knowledge from and playing next to Chris Paul can only help SGA turn into a superstar, IMO. He could make a Tatum like leap next year.

Oh absolutely, I love SGA. I cannot believe I slept on him at his draft class. I thought he was going to be good, but not this great already. He definitely is the kind of combo guard that will fit nicely in today's NBA. CP3 mentoring him has also helped him move ahead so quickly.

In terms of team success, I'd take Tatum.  The Celtics are already fringe contenders, and they have several young players who could realistically grow beyond the players they are today.  Jaylen and Jayson could continue to add to their games.  R Williams, G Williams, and Langford all don't move the needle much this season, but could develop into reliable contributors with a year or two of seasoning.

Luka, Zion, and Ja could all realistically contend if their organizations put the right pieces around them.

I don't believe in Trae or the Hawks right now.  Flawed player surrounded by complementary pieces who exacerbate his flaws.  They won't do anything unless there are major overhauls in that roster.

Agree with Nick that SGA probably deserves a mention, especially with that treasure trove of picks that OKC has coming in the next several years.  Also, I'd consider throwing De'Aaron Fox in the ring as well, but he'll probably have to get out of Sacramento to win.  That organization is a mess.

Luka or JT. Two best run teams of the two, and in my opinion they’re the two best of the bunch (as it stands now). Dallas have a huge amount of cap space coming up soon, and two studs. Kristaps averaged 25/10 in Feb ... so he might be coming good.

Pretty obvious why I think JT will have success. He’s on a top East team and said team is incredibly young.

The other three could well, just less likely
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I think each of them will have a good amount of success as long as their respective organizations commit to placing talent around each.

For Luka - DAL has done well in this regard, with Kristaps...they could be a WCS team RIGHT NOW...maybe they can convince Greek Freak to come in future?

Luka is - IMO - the most polished of everyone here and by his presence alone makes his team good.

For Zion? Needs to work on his handles, shooting (3s)...grow into being a player where Coach Gentry can run the offense THROUGH...dude's ceiling is IMMENSE due to his intelligence and physical gifts....just needs to get used to the speed of the game and realize he doesn't have to bludgeon his way through his opponents - even though this is FUN to watch.

Anyone who can out - muscle PJ Tucker and Dwight Howard is special and that is Zion.

Also with Zion - NOH's FUTURE is BRIGHT...Coach Gentry is proven and GM Griffin will turn LAL ( ;D) picks into gold.

Trae? I think ATL is moving in right direction with him, Collins and NOW Capela. Trae has some weapons to help him. Would love to see him work harder on defense but this will come. Not sure of how many draft picks they have but they could be a playoff team next year.

Ja? Electrifying...may be the best leader out of these listed (besides Luka)...has the gift of making players better just by showing up. I think MEM has overachieved a bit this year but their future is bright, considering Conley, Gasol and Z Bound moving on.

Jae's in a great place.

Tatum? In a position to win RIGHT NOW...has ALREADY been to the cusp of The Finals (2017-18)....can carry a team offensively..getting better defensively...worked on his handles, his upper body strength...great work ethic and NOT lazy. I can say this because of what he has become already. Blessed with length, skill and a maturity of someone that has perhaps been in the league longer than he has. I say this because he has experienced 2017-18, experienced the lows and confusion of last year, and is NOW spring-boarding into a GREAT season NOW and perhaps into June.

Jayson is HUNGRY.

Jayson has a GREAT team around him NOW...a quiet leader in Kemba that is supporting his growth...a brother in arms in Jaylen that is deferring to him a bit AND a now-wily vet in Gordon Hayward that is helping to glue this all together.

Out of ALL the above listed Jayson Tatum is READY to win RIGHT NOW...BOS has a puncher's chance for the next few seasons. The other player's success is limited - at the moment - by whomever is placed around them.

I'd take Luka for most of those. IMHO, he's the best young player. Zion is a freak and will keep NO in contention for years if he stays healthy, and JT is turning into a monster, but I think Luka is the best player to come into the league since Lebron, and maybe even further back than him.

One guy I'm not as high on is Trae Young. Great offensive talent, and he'll make ATL more fun to watch, but he's one of the worst defenders the league has ever seen, IT-level bad.

It'll very likely be one of Luka, Zion and Tatum. I don't see Trae having the supporting cast to succeed as a Hawk while Morant simply isn't on the level of Luka/Zion/Tatum/Trae barring an insane leap in skill and basketball IQ.

Three of these will probably team up and take their talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat.

I love how Scal is standing there, all casual, with his hand in his pocket. Perk, glancing around nervously, fist clenched...

If success can be measured by individual accolades, Luka's the clear favorite. He already has the ROY over the others (with Morant or Zion joining him this year), 1x AS (Trae and Tatum joining him), and will have an All NBA award this year (Trae and, possibly, Tatum joining him) and is in the lead to be an MVP over the next 5 years with the Mavs being not too many pieces away from a top 2 seed in the WC.

If it's including team accolades, Tatum's the slight favorite. the Celtics are legitimate contenders for the NBA Championship for the next 5 years and Tatum has a great shot at an EC and Finals MVP if they were to win 1-2.

If it's including counting stats and analytics, Zion is a PER beast and has the most fanfare, so he's going to have all of the awards he qualifies for (the Pelicans aren't too far away from the playoffs). Trae is the Hawks' clear leader and not just a green light, but a freeway to operate (the current Hawks are 2 seasons away from the playoffs in the EC!). Ja's a walking highlight and already leading a young Grizzlies team without the Trae's green light.

Who's had the most success Kawhi, Harden, or Antetokounpo? Depending how you answer that is your preference.
