The Philadelphia 76ers acquired Glenn Robinson III and Alec Burks from the Golden State Warriors at the trade deadline to give the team more depth on the wing.

Robinson has had his playing time cut in half, which has been disappointing considering he'll be a free agent this offseason.

“Even when (Golden State) played Philly, I showed them what I could do,” Robinson told Basketball Insiders. “So to play those consistent minutes a night and perform well… that’s the most disappointing part about coming here is that — both of us (are) coming off career years where we’re looking at hopefully big numbers after the season. I know I’ve got a family to feed. So you think about all those things.

“All those things play a role, and then when you come here and your role’s not really explained or you don’t know what’s going on with the trade — it’s not like it was a trade where you come in and immediately have an impact. It’s a little different, so… this team is full of wings, full of guys who can play. So really, I don’t really understand it. But it’s a business, you’ve got to make it happen and go out and try to do your best every night.”

Robinson hopes he'll play a bigger role as the season continues.

“As a competitor, as an NBA player — this is my sixth year — I think that’s always gonna be there to want more and more,” Robinson told Basketball Insiders. “So I’m definitely interested to see what happens down the stretch here.”

Robinson also talked about the impact changing teams in the middle of the season has on a player.

“You’ve got family. You’ve got to try to get out of a lease, move your stuff, all of that. I think that people don’t realize how much it is,” Robinson told Basketball Insiders. “You’re expected to be at the next place in like the next day or two after the trade, so I think it’s just a lot going on. And then, you’ve got to go out on a court and focus and play like nothing happened.

“I mean at the end of the day, we’re still human beings. And that’s what I tell people all the time. To try to get people on a flight the next day is crazy to me. But it is a business. It is what it is at the end of the day and we just try to make it work.”

That team has to be one of the most disfunctional good teams in recent times eh? Embiid taking shots at Simmons to the press, brown calling out Simmons (and his agent), Horford being moved to the bench after signing a max, Horford referencing a bad locker room, trading for a guy and having him go to the press ten days later.... having a near lottery pick toil away for their g league team while they trade for wing after wing... star players injured...

Well, with Embiid + Simmons likely out for a while, they'll have bigger roles going forward I imagine

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I get that it can be frustrating, but that's the nature of the business. I don't really think the 'feed the family' excuse resonates with the rest of the population either - Robinson has made over $10M in his career. It honestly sounds ridiculous.

But I guess this is where we're at with the Sixers now. It really does mirror the Cs of last year where the talent seems to be there, but the chemistry certainly is not. I once was worried we would have to play them in the 1st round of the playoffs, but with the way things are going over there, it might not be a very difficult series, after all.

yeah that line's not going to garner a lot of sympathy when a basic rookie deal is more money than all but a few people will ever earn in a lifetime.

Moving Horford to the bench was a panic move and that coach and locker room haven't stopped panicking since.

They need to get some composure and get on the same page for the playoffs. Otherwise they will be out on the first round.

Too busy beating themselves at the moment.

I believe this is actually one of the reason's Silver gave for moving the trade deadline to before the All-Star game.  It would give any players that got traded that whole week off to help them transition.

And I don't know what kind of ironclad lease Robinson signed up for, but most places have a 2 month lease buyout clause (pay 2 months rent to break your lease).  Really simple to get out of.  Plus you have an agent, maybe a personal assistant, probably somebody with both your new and old team to help with that stuff.

Oh the inconvenience of being in the middle of a $4m/2yr contract, being traded on 2/6, and then having a whole week off from 2/12 to 2/19 to handle your personal business.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Moving sucks, even if you're rich. Especially if you didn't make the decision to move or want to.

Whole lot of haters in this thread, the petty is so very real.

I don't even know what this post means. Are you saying posters are hating on rich people and that is petty? What?
