Houston must have serious concerns about Capela's foot.  That is the only logical explanation for them making that trade and giving up a 1st in the process.

It's weird to me, unless they have another move in mind.

The other possibility is that we don't properly value Covington or Capela in the modern NBA.

Atlanta got a good nucleus with Young, Collins & Capela

If Hunter turns into a defensive menace on the wing, they could have something there. Collins will really need to lean into the stretch aspect of his play style though. A modern team having 2 bigs will run into rampant spacing problems with those two. Collins CAN shoot, but his offensive production is awesome using his gifts inside.

I think Huerter is the second best player on that team, too. He's got to add more strength and weight, but he's a really good player.

Serious question though: If Huerter becomes a solid two-way guard averaging 18 ppg, Hunter becomes a good 3D player, what's this team's ceiling?

Is it relying on Collins to take the next step as a scorer and defender? Not sure I love that.

I thought Huerter had Chandler Parsons type potential. A 6-7 SG version of what Parsons did at 6-10 SF. A bit disappointed in his 2nd year so far.

Still time. Early days still but I was hoping for more.

I really hope this is not the next evolution in NBA basketball. They end of big men altogether. Teams playing 5 wings. Shooting 3s and breaking guys down 1-on-1 off the dribble.

Sorta like what Pat Riley envisioned for the league back in the early 90s. Five guys 6-9 who can all handle the ball, pass the ball, shoot the ball, post. Only smaller players and without the post play.

I truly hope this is not successful for Houston. But I think it's got a good chance. That is why a guy like Theis can get away as a starting center now whereas he never could have in the past. Too lightweight. It is the same thinking / same trend that allows Theis to be successful for us that is allowing Houston to do this with PJ Tucker at center.

I went to a high school game last night with a guard that is going to UNI and a big that is going to Iowa State. The guard's team didn't have anyone over 6'4'' and the big going to Iowa State looked like a legit 7 footer. The guard's team won.

I did not think that was a boring game. I love competing styles. The NBA becomes too uniform at times. It is a copycats league and other teams will think they found the magic key.

But generally, good teams with better players win, regardless of position. It makes basketball more fun when there is a variety of matchups and play styles. Good coaches will try to enforce their play style on the other team instead of copying them.

Given that he's looked cooked even before what sounds like a bad car accident, I don't think he sees the court again.

Crazy I remember watching him on my honeymoon cook the C's in a casino while gambling....

They did free up 12 million to use, so they might have another move, but I do really think this is about Capela and his injury.  He must be damaged goods, though Atlanta gave up a 1st rounder for him, so who knows.

I don't get why Minnesota gave up the BKN 1st to get Beasley and Hernangomez.  Seems like a weird use of that 1st rounder.  I understand wanting to get some young decent players, but seems like they could have done better with a Brooklyn 1st that could still end up in the lottery and at worst will be like 17.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I agree. I like Beasley a lot. The Wolves need a 3-D wing and Beasley could fit that. Hernangomez has his fans. I'm not a huge fan of his game but I could see how he could be effective next to KAT.

I also wonder if they thought Golden State would be more interested in real NBA rotational players than 1st rounders. Golden State doesn't have many right now but they will be in win-now mode next year.

Minny received the Brooklyn 1st, not gave it....

The pick is protected and can’t be in the lottery ... it’s pretty much a given to be 16.
Maybe they don’t value the upcoming draft?
They also need players to start winning now and it looks like they view Hernangomez and Beasley as under utilized ready to start producing in a new situation players

I think people are sleeping on Isaiah Hartenstein. He’s going to take over the center position admirably for the Rockets. He’s also much cheaper and more suited to the modern NBA game

I agree, but it doesn't seem like D'Antoni wants to play him a lot. He's been on record talking about spacing issues when Westbrook and Hartenstein share the court together.

I liked him in the draft a few years ago.  Had a temper problem if I recall.

Yeah, they’ve just not played a center the last few games, and it seems they plan to go away from it.  Maybe for a specific matchup they’ll put him out there, but a center will not be part of their standard rotation it seems.  At least until that strategy doesn’t work.
