Capela is another injury prone guy. No thanks, especially considering Theis’ all-round versatility.

Where's this injury-prone thing coming from? I mean, he plays in like 80% of their games. For the load management age, that's pretty good.

Two seasons with 15+ missed games and a current mystery heal injury that he’s missing more time than expected to is enough reason for me to avoid. Maybe injury-prone is hyperbolic, but still, don’t think it would help us too much.

In fairness to gouki88, here's the latest report on Capela.

From the looks of it, it doesn’t sound like this is a day-to-day situation for Capela, either. There’s a growing sense internally he could be out for a while, at least until after the All-Star break. Capela is said to be in pain daily, struggling to run early Friday morning before the Mavericks’ game. A collective coaching decision was made that day to rest him until he fully recovers. “Hurts like heck,” D’Antoni said, citing his past experience with plantar fasciitis. “He’s dealing with it, and every day it’s tough and he’s dealing with pain. But it’s like he’s gotta get over it and the only way you can do that is rest and treatment. It could linger, it could be a while.”

Didn't know he had plantar fasciitis. I was under the impression that it was a day-to-day situtation. Apparently, that's not the case. Ugh, this sucks big time. :-\

It's worrisome, but it's also something that does respond to rest and is less scary than say, a knee issue. Let's say he comes back after the All-Star break. That's 3-4 full weeks off. Houston plays him 33 mpg. We won't. There's definitely some risk, but it could be a heckuva buy low if people put too much stock in a mild to moderate case of fasciitis and then he gets a month of rest and better load management going forward.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Plantar fasciitis is like the least worrisome injury a player can have. I have had it in both of my feet at different times (I do a lot of long distance running) and it is something that you can absolutely heal from and have no lingering effects for the rest of your life. It's unfortunate for him that it is right in the middle of the season, but he is just doing what is best for treatment. You can bet if they needed him for the playoffs, he would be playing through it.

Two things: 1) D'antoni notably exaggerates a bit when it comes to injuries. In the facade of directness he tends to embellish. 2) D'antoni notably ignores load management. With rest I think Capela would get healthy. The Cs have Kanter and Williams getting healthy to give him time off and lessen his minutes per game. That would make him more effective.

Capela is not injury-prone.

Good to hear. Our rivals in the East are very strong at the PF-C positions. Theis is a terrible fit against Horford-Embiid / Giannis-BroLo / Turner-Sabonis. If the goal is to make a deep playoff run, we need to upgrade the C position.

Would love us to go after Turner, but I'd be happy with Capela as well.

Windhorst: I asked a staffer to give me some names that worked salarywise, and this is what he came up with.
That would be a dream trade on our part! We get to keep all our core guys and we add a legit starting-caliber Center in Capela!

Respectfully, Theis should be a core player at this point.  Not long-term, hope to keep forever core, but he’s absolutely part of this year’s core.  The upgrade from Theis to Capela would be marginal at best, so trading your rookie lottery pick and another potential lottery pick is a high price.  This is compounded by the fact that Theis is under contract for a bargain $5 million next season.

I can get moving Kanter, whom I like, in such a package for Capela. Not sure I’d do it, but I’d get it.  Theis just wouldn’t make sense to trade in such a package.

As is noted here, Capela is not the sort of player that you give up two 1st round picks and a starting center from a .700 percent winning team.  He is not moving the needle that much.

Make of this what you will.

Quote from: Chris Forsberg
Danny Ainge asked on PreGame Live if he’s comfortable with the Celtics’ current big man situation.

Answers simply, “Yes, I am.”

Later notes, “I feel good about our center position."

Danny Ainge on priorities before Thursday’s deadline: “I think our No. 1 need is health. I think we're going to look to see if there's ways to strengthen the end of our bench. We like all of our guys. We do have probably too many really young guys.”

Danny Ainge said that there’s been “8 or 10 teams that have reached out to ask us to do a deal. I think our draft picks do have some interest. Everybody’s always looking for draft picks, especially the teams that are just giving them all away."

If you ask me, Danny is probably using the media as leverage to get better trade offers. I trust nothing of what he says. :D

According to this tweet, Rockets asked for Marcus Smart, first round pick, amongst others in trade with Celtics for Clint Capela.

I would tell Houston to go pound sand.

I don't know if this is accurate, but I could definitely see that being what Morey asked for. I can't see the Celtics making a deal like that.

Is it interesting that I don't see Smart on the bench tonight?

Smart would probably hurt himself getting too excited on the bench, and/or physically fight Brad to get in on Trae Young.
