I think Brown deserves it over Tatum.

With that said, I kinda expected it. Brown is a victim of circumstances. 1) Tatum has higher usage and higher raw point average. 2) Once the slump happened, there was no way the Celtics were gonna get three all-star. 3) didnt help that Brown also slumped during that slump. Then he got injured. 4) Tatum had recent high scoring totals.

Anyway I hope it shines a fire under Brown. With how things are only way for us to have three all-stars is to have an exceptional season. IMHO if the voting was done in december, all three gets in.

Gotta wonder how close Jaylen was to making the team, and if there's a chance he'll make it in as an injury replacement (just need someone to go down first).

Have to imagine Brown, LaVine, Beal, Rose, Dinwiddie, and Brogdon were all in the conversation.  If I was guessing I'd probably say Brown and Beal were at the top, maybe LaVine too.

Silver usually goes with the guy with most coaches vote not on the team if they need a replacement, but I could see him going a lot of different ways here.

If Brown isn't the next man up but was close, and Tatum or Walker are injured, maybe he replaces a Celtic with a Celtic.  Though then the same could be said for Brogdon if he's close and Sabonis somehow goes down.

At the same time, if LaVine was close, but not the next man up, maybe he goes with the Chicago guy with the game in Chicago.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Bradley Beal got robbed! He’s very comparable to Trae (http://bkref.com/tiny/14sFz), with worse offence but definitely better defence, and his team is better.

Yeah I don't understand that either.   It seems like Beal, Jaylen, Devin Booker, maybe even Zack Levine all have justifiable smirks on their faces right now.

You can't compare a Starter to a Reserve though since they're different selection processes.

If Young wasn't a starter, I personally don't think the coaches would have selected him as a reserve.
It was more to highlight how big a snub it was, because he blows out the other reserves by such a large margin

I think Beal got discounted because the Wizards play some of the most blatant score 120 give up 140 basketball I've seen in quite some time. Trae Young has the same issue though so I guess you can be mad about him taking the one good stats on an bad team slot from Beal.

I'm still very annoyed that Young is on the team instead of Jaylen. If Atlanta keeps on the current course he'll be a fixture on the team while staying glued to the lottery. (ala Kyrie before LBJ returned to Cleveland) Could mean Jaylen missing out on multiple all-star teams while playing winning basketball on a good team.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

I'm happy for Gobert.  About time.
Yeah Gobert was overdue and Mitchell also very deserving this year. Though Mitchell played AWFUL last night, sucky to come out on national TV after making the all-star game and lay an egg.

Glad Tatum came out and took care of his business last night in limited minutes  ;D.

I'm a petty guy, I enjoy Devin Booker still not making it.
I would have picked him over Ingram, but I don't think its a big deal.

I think Westbrook shouldn't be on the team this year, he's had a hot month but his first 3 months were really bad.

Unfortunately for Jaylen, it appears the Cs will have to be the clear #1 or he will have to prove he is a cut above the rest before he finally makes it, since he is the 3rd guy on the Cs. Kyrie will be back next season and he always gets the fan vote and Beal's WAS team probably won't be quite as bad. I assume Lowry is nearing the end of his All-Star reign, but there are always new hot names out there.

I think if he continues to average over 20 and play excellent defense that he will eventually be rewarded, but it's not going to be as easy for him as somebody like Tatum who will probably make it every year forever now. Why Tatum has a much better image than Brown is beyond me, but I think the same thing about Irving. Fans just love some guys.

It's simple - big time scoring and eye catching moves. There's a trend with fans overrating players, almost all of them were big time scorers with a versatile moveset to get those points, while players who excel at the less glamorous aspects of the game that are just as (or nearly as) valuable get dismissed as role players.

There is a big value to being a shot creator, both in fans and the leagues eyes.

Also anchoring matters in this aspect too. It helps that Tatum went to Duke and was thought of as a all-nba talent in a loaded draft, meanwhile Jaylen went to Cal and was thought of as a raw athlete in a two player draft.

Of course the funny thing is a massive part of Tatum's value is the non flashy stuff on defense. One of the biggest reasons he's been better than Jaylen on D is he doesn't give up as many silly fouls, transition mix ups, or back cuts.

This is one of the reasons I'm still incredibly high on Tatum's potential, he has done the valuable non flashy stuff this year at an elite level.

East: Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry, Ben Simmons, Khris Middleton, Jayson Tatum, Bam Adebayo, Domas Sabonis

So in the East 5 of the top 6 all have exactly 2, then 1 for Indiana and 1 for...Atlanta. As many pairs of teammates as I can remember, and as much of a preference for guys from the best teams.

The coaches put Tatum on the team.  Not the fans.  The coaches put Tatum on the team because they know he is the most valuable Celtic.  He is the guy that makes the team tick.  He is the guy you gameplan against not Brown.

Yeah, that is ridiculous. He has improved so much this season and is playing at a high level. He deserves to be there.
