If they face each other, they won’t have to travel for that series

How is that fair when everyone else is traveling across the country getting jetlagged

So what is your suggestion?

That the “road” team goes on a jet and just flies for an average time of which other conference teams travels, then land on the same airfield which they departed from?

what doesn't kill you makes you stronger

They'll forget how to fly during the WCF and be easy pickings in finals. 8)

This. Too bad the Finals aren't in winter, turn the temperature in the arena waaay down and see the Californians freeze.

To be fair if the playoffs started today, the Lakers would have San Antonio first then the Clippers (who would have Utah) and then likely the Nuggets or Rockets.   Two series in Texas might just counteract the one where they don't travel.  I mean that isn't only a long way, you are talking different time-zones (a couple of hours apart).

Boston could reasonably play Brooklyn, Toronto, and then Milwaukee or Brooklyn, Philly, Milwaukee.  That isn't exactly a lot of cross country flights.  Now sure maybe Boston ends up with 2 series in Florida (Orlando, Miami) which are pretty far flights, but in general the East has a lot easier time of travel then the Western teams.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I mean that's how the cookie crumbles?

When Boston plays a NY team or Philly the travel is pretty tame compared to LAL and say Memphis or OKC.

This may actually be a disadvantage for the LA teams. Every other team has a clear advantage at home, not only because of the away teams traveling, but the referees being influenced by the home crowd. Neither the Clippers or Lakers will have that home court advantage by not traveling. Who do the referees side with, if the crowd is 50/50? Will we finally see a series, where the actual teams decide who the better team is? Far too many times, series are decided by a home court advantage.

BTW, if anything, an all LA series, may hurt the Clippers, as there is no way the crowd is 50/50. If anything, the crowd will be 70/30 or 60/40 Lakers over Clippers fans. And that is where the referees will be influenced.

In a playoff setting the Staples Center will be a Lakers home game for every single game.

Aren't cities on the east coast much closer than those in the West?  I would imagine west coast teams have to travel more than east coast teams in general so wouldn't that be a disadvantage?

On top of that, I think the bigger issue for either team is that they would need to face each other.

Let's send all teams to the same place Europe so everyone has approximately equal travel.
