I saw the accident and understand catastrophic injury as I had a knee injury that ended playing competitive ball, .I followed Haywards rehab set back by 2nd surgery.
I gave up on Hayward last season and the playing him into mental and physical shape was torturous to watch.I understood what they were doing with playoff timeline .I shutdown  on the Celtics.
Watching Hayward this season has been a revelation, as I hardly paid attention to his Utah play.
So this a HUGE apology. You are a courageous athlete and a complete "BASKETBALL  PLAYER" and a pleasure to watch play the game I  still love.

Big TP Rollie.

A lot of the people around here who thought Hayward was cooked haven't been quite able to bring themselves to own up to it. Some (or at least one) even still try and make troll posts about Hayward despite him averaging 17/6/4 with a TS% over 60%, while playing versatile defence. He's had a few unlucky in his time here, obviously the freak ankle/leg injury, and to a lesser extent the broken hand and a few head knocks, but this season he's been our most complete offensive player in my opinion.

How far we go at the end of this season depends a lot upon him. He's probably our only guy who can truly be our best playmaker and our best scorer all in one night. Thankfully there's no pressure on him to be the latter every night - or even 1/3 of the games! What a luxury to have

What’s scary is we probably have a better record right now if Hayward didn’t get hurt this season

Last season was rough, but he showed glimpses of him being able to get back close to form. Then hearing about all the issues knowing this could hurt his confidence I was hopeful for this season. Not going to lie, if he was the same  as last season, I was going to be disappointed. But more for him, because he seems to be a class act and you don’t want to see a guy go out like that.  So this has been a fun season to watch and he’s been sneaky good.

He's been awesome this year.  I knew he was great in Utah, but I didn't really expect him to be that good again by the time last season ended.  I had very high expectations for him when last year began, and his body looked pretty good to me by the end of last season but he stayed very inconsistent and gun shy.  Utah was built around him so he was kind of forced to be aggressive while Boston had so many scorers so Hayward could easily drift to the background.  I think the selfishness and negativity on last years team kept Hayward from wanting to step on other players toes and even though the bad apples were let go, I worried that Hayward would still defer to Brown, Tatum, and Walker.  I'm so thrilled that it hasn't been the case at all.  Hayward is an efficient and complete player and I'm really hoping that he can stay healthy so he can keep doing what he's been doing this year.

I remember a few years ago when considering which wing I would like on the Celtics and Hayward was my choice over Jimmy Butler and Paul George.  That seemed insane last year.  Obviously Butler and George are great players and you can't go wrong with either one of them, but Hayward has shown that you can't go wrong with him either if his body and mind are right.

Yep. Lost a few nail-biters while he was out that probably would’ve gone the other way.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Really heady, unselfish, and efficient player. It makes no sense that he is able to get into the paint and then get his shot off with ease. It's not like he is way stronger or more athletic than his counterparts; he is just that good with the intricacies of ball-handling and decision making. He looks like he could play this way for many years to come.

I know many people want to trade him, but he is pretty much exactly what we need for this team moving forward. Unless you can get a premier Center for him return (not Drummond), you embrace his all-around game and hope that he will sign a (somewhat) team friendly contract when this one is up.

Well-stated, TP.

I was one of those proposing to trade Hayward .. so I owe him an apology !
However my proposed trade was Hayward for Chris Paul plus 2 unprotected picks from Houston before they traded him to OKC.. it would be an ok trade in retrospect 😬

Said person has moved from criticizing Hayward's play to Hayward's health I noticed  :P

I've always loved Hayward's game - watched a lot of him with Utah.   Its a shame a lot of C's fans have no clue about the real Gordon Hayward.

I stuck with Hayward, but I’ve gotta say, I was worried in the back of my head that he might become the next Chandler Parsons.

TP, Well said.

I mean, remember when we had that idiotic "Hayward double digit scoring thread" last season. Where's it now?  :P

Same, except I think I proposed Hayward for Adams last summer or something like that LOL
