Remember when Chad Ford was going on ESPN calling Exum a special player that was deserving of a top 3 pick in his mock drafts. Exum's agent didn't let him do anything for teams until at the combine. Teams had next to no good film on the kid, had limited workouts and just let the draftniks hype him ridiculously.

And....between injuries, lack of good court vision, lack of a good shot, BBIQ being massively overexaggerated and him being much more SG than PG....you can now safely label him a huge bust.

To Utah : A player owed 13m with a PER of 19.4

To Cleveland: A player owed 19m over the next 2 seasons with a PER of 9, plus 2 second rounders.

Cleveland should have held out for at least a protected first rounder.

Only thing I can think of, is the Cavs get a trade exception of nearly 4 million, which also gives them wiggle room on the luxury tax allowing them more trade options i.e. they can bring back more salary then they give up.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Lol Clarkson has a high PER but he contributes less than zero to winning basketball games. No one was sending a first round pick for him .. 2 SRP is more than enough. Also Cleveland doesn’t seem like they want to sign expensive players next season as now they have less cap space in 2020. Seems like they will just aim at the salary floor.
I guess this is one less team out of the running for Hayward next year. Also the market for derozan shrank too

I was admittedly one of them.  thought this kid had promise.  then thought he wasn't able to show that promise due to injuries.  I'll go on record on being dead wrong on this one.   was ok with Smart being taken when Exum was off the board but really wanted Exum or Gordon to fall to us.

I was really happy the Jazz took Exum at #5.

Exum was all potential heading into the 2014 Draft.

He didn't even average double figures for Australia in FIBA play.

Yeah, like averaging 2.7 points per game in FIBA play and NBA scouts think he's a top 5 pick.

Exum was a classic unknown quantity. TP for owning up to being wrong, I was intrigued too. It's amazing how many people have bad memories when it comes to Exum, or Bender, or Maker, or countless other guys, but who have great memories when it comes to how much they loved Giannis.

Do scouts and draft gurus that hype these players get to keep their jobs after said players bust out?
