Not trying to troll here, and not really referring to last night's game either (Pacers).

I have not looked up the numbers, but when Edwards gets into the game late 1st period and into the 2nd period, Brad is often on the court as well.  Over the last month, I have noticed (or at least I think I have noticed) several times when Brad is bringing up the ball over mid court, approaching the 3 pt line on the left side, I will see Carsen wide open on the right side behind the line and I figure the ball will go there and it rarely does. Instead Brad will dribble penetrate down the left side (sometimes into traffic).

Anyone else notice this?

And if so, why do you think this is happening?

Celtics4ever brought this up a few weeks ago.

You can look at the NBA.com stats and see how many times he's passed it to Carson yourself.

Though raw numbers don't tell you how often he as potentially missed him when open for scoring opportunities.

tbh, I don't see it as an issue Wanamaker has specifically with Edwards.  Wanamaker has seemed more interested in his own offense when on the court this season.  you can watch any game he's in and see at least a few instances where he's not passing to open teammates or just 'hogging' the ball instead of passing it around to get people involved.

No need to even waste your time trying to figure this out. CARSON is now where he belongs, MAINE!

Yeah I agree that Wannamaker is looking to score more than pass.

Which given his TO issues and efficient scoring, isn't an approach I am opposed to overall. Though in the moment it can be frustrating or bad on a given possession.

Celtics always seem to have one "trick or treat" guy on the roster.  Wannamaker seems to be it for me this year.

I was thinking this same thing last night. He doesn't even look at Edwards when the two share the floor. I notice Carsen alone in that corner quit a bit and no one really looks his way.

I think it comes down to fans not necessarily understanding NBA offenses frankly.  Sure, there are times with Carsen (or other players) appear open.  But PG's understand that if they're standing there and the defense is set, they really aren't open.  Defenders can recover very quickly.  Much better to drive and kick out (i.e., move defenders) than just throwing it out to a guy that has some separation.

I guess my point is that I have seen zero evidence that Wannamaker ignores Edwards.

This may be the only issue that I have noticed too. However, the issue isn’t Edwards, it seems Wannamaker doesn’t want to create offense for others. I’m surprised defenses haven’t picked up on this yet, but when Wannamaker leads a fast break, he seems to always take it to the rim himself, regardless if there is an open man on the wing.

this has been my observation of Wanamaker's play more or less.

Obviously Brad is playing for a contract next summer, but man - you generally should pass when leading the break!!!

Open players aren't open?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I generally agree with others that Wanamaker seems to be searching for his own rather than getting others involved. I am looking forward to Smart getting back so he can help lead the 2nd unit and push Wanamaker to SG (or whatever)...although that will mean Edwards will see very little time if that's the case and that's kind-of a bummer..

Don't get me wrong, it has been nice to see Wanamaker produce better than he did last year, he just seems more in the Rozier/Morris mold than the Hayward/Horford mold that I expected. And, personally, I would rather our core guys or younger guys be getting almost all of the shots.
