Along with Giannis in the East.

Pretty nice achievement for Carmelo though there's more than a little Lifetime Achievement/Welcome Back quality to it.

Only a little?!?!?!

Luka had a ridiculously better week averaging nearly 33/9/8 while going 3-1 against the Rockets, Clippers, Suns and Lakers.

No way Carmelo deserved that award.

I said more than a little lol.

And also Harden dropping 60 in 3 quarters on like 24 shots deserved it though it was only a 2 game week.

It is rather comical. I think I could find 2-3 more guys that deserved it more. Heck, I think Brown, Hayward, Kemba and Tatum have had weeks as good if not better than the week Carmelo had last week and none of them even came close enough to sniff the POTW award.

I mean he had a legitimately good week, remarkably good for his layoff and the regard most serious fans hold his game in, and the struggling team he joined went undefeated, albeit against lousy competition. But yeah, best in the conference? It's a feelgood story for the people that vote so in ya go. Good thing these awards are meaningless!

Congrats to Melo...for someone that at one time was thought to be done for good he has played himself (and POR) back into shape.

He is giving POR a chance.

As for the comments in this thread - sure - Luka or someone else could've / should've gotten the award - at face value. But Luka has a LONG and BRIGHT career left in front of him with a FLOOR of at least HOF, IMO.

Melo doesn't have much time left. And his stats - indeed - were admirable.

Sometimes an award like this is a way of saying "Welcome back XXXXX - thank you for your contributions to the league" while at the same time giving said player some credit for good play and helping a team that appeared dead in the water.

Melo has FINALLY found a team that he can help and contribute to and I'm happy for him and POR. One more thorn in the Lakers side and this is GREAT.

Jordan Crawford?

You mean the JC that was just about out of the league until Coach Stevens turned him into a player?

Ludicrous. Barely scraped in to the top 10 in terms of Western players this week for my mind.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Here's my thing, though -

Is it TOO MUCH nowadays to say nice things about people? Was Jordan Crawford referring to Melo? How can dude come out the blue like that and say that?

I live in Virginia.....are Bostonians THAT Green Koolaid-ish to where we can't even congratulate a player like Melo on his accomplishment here?

Even "IF" Luka or someone else won it - I barely see a PEEP in the NBA 2019-20 thread about Melo and what he's doing...especially recently.....BUT: I saw more negative comments on here when he had just started out in POR and was having bad games...

Do we want to see some players fail?

Is it not "Celtic Like" to congratulate other Non-Celtic Players?

Is the earth flat outside of BOS?

OK - I get LeBron James. Dude has been a GODZILLA-SIZED thorn in The Boston Collective for quite a while now....but Melo?

Seriously?

I'm pulling for him and POR, myself. Dude has a rep apparently - with some of the blame on him. But it looks like things are working out for him now and I'm glad myself.

It's probably an old Jordan Crawford quote about his own player of the week award.  There is a big difference between wanting someone to fail and wanting the most deserving man to win an award.

Thanks for reply Moiso - that makes more sense.

I think Melo's time to get these awards is dwindling fast. Luka Doncic is in the process of remaking the NBA landscape if he keeps up his pace.

Luka will get PLENTY of these things and more.

Are you guys this outraged over the fact that Carmelo won the player of the week award? Relax, it was just a feel good award for a guy who at one point was out of the NBA and looked like he didn't have a chance to go back. Luka will win many awards don't worry.

Let him have it, lovefest and all.
Will he still be a great story if they finish 37-45?
