  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
just joining the game. tps for recaps please.

Our 3rd stringers are taking their starters to school and there have been LOTS of FTs. CLE just fouls rather than bothering to play defense.

Slow, but hard worker.  Surprisingly raw.

Not that it should be any other way, but Strus and Green know what's on the line and have been feeding each other throughout the pre-season. I'd be happy with either.

Strus is signed.  Green is the one with things on the line.

They can't cut Strus?  Thought they could.

Strus' contract is not guaranteed.  He and Green are fighting for the last roster spot unless Ainge makes a trade.
His contract is very trade-able at some point and he JUST signed. It would be bad form for DA to trade him now.

I don't think so.  Even Strus said he knows that he hasn't made the team yet.

Fair enough, but it I think it would be weird to sign a contract and get cut a week later.

As I understand it, the contract was just a technicality and Strus is fully aware of that.

It was basically to create a two way slot for Tacko and give Strus some type of compensation if he does miss out on that final spot.

Why not just sign Tacko to the 15th roster spot then...or Waters? I don't particularly dislike Strus - he does have a proven skill - but Green has been consistently aggressive and productive and he deserves a roster spot over several guys that will likely beat him out (yes, I know he is 26).

My theory is that because they want Tacko to get experience in the G league but still keep control of him. I would assume 2 way players are signed because they are seen to have some future upside but they need seasoning and experience in the G league before offering them a roster spot. To me Tacko, Tremont and Strus all fit that criteria - they’re pretty raw or there are question marks.

Obviously Tremont looks the most polished of the 3 and the most likely to be ready for regular minutes, I’m guessing his size makes them want to see how he goes against G league competition particularly defensively. As for Tacko, it would probably be a waste giving him the roster spot since of the 3 of them he needs the playing time the most. Having him sitting on the end of the bench not playing would probably be not best for his development.

As for Green, he’s clearly the readiest of all of them to immediately contribute. He’s played years in the Euroleague against grown men. He deserves to play. The issue is whether giving him the 15th slot will be in his interest. He could probably get in the 8 man rotation of a team like Cleveland, which would be better for him than sitting on the end of the bench behind all our wings like an Abdel Nader. I’m that perspective Strus “fits” the 15th position better.

Looked good early, swished a couple of threes, made a nice move in the post.

Apparently nothing to be concerned about. He won't be back this game though.

He’s look very comfortable. Using his length. Blocked a few shots. Actually I don’t think he looks slow. Seems quicker than in prior stints.

Edwards can clearly shoot, but he's a pretty good passer too.

Steal of the 2019 Draft.
