He's a good scorer, and he's young and he shows flashes, but i thought he would be better offensively by now. He's still missing point blank layups (like the one last night) and the game just doesn't look that easy for him right now. Maybe he's overthinking out there i'm not sure, but i honestly thought he'd be a more dynamic scorer at this point in time.

I'm more disappointed in his decision making and passing.  I think the scoring talent is still there.

Those two areas are pretty lackluster as well, but his defense and rebounding have been pretty good. I do see the scoring "talent" but it's not really translating into him becoming a dominant scorer. He is not coming across as the type who can score at will or get a bucket whenever the team absolutely needs one.

He has played in 3 games for a total of 63 minutes of preseason, leading the team in scoring in 2 of those games. He had a bad half shooting yesterday, otherwise his volume was that of a scorer, in every game.

The things about scorers, they just keep shooting until they go down. He has been aggressive and is very able and willing to shoot. He looks like a scorer to me that had a couple bad shooting days.

Oh, and he battled through sickness yesterday but will miss tomorrow's game.

Is it me or did Paul Pierce seem to score a lot more effortlessly than what Tatum has shown?

Pierce went to college for three years.  His rookie year was equivalent to this upcoming season from Tatum.

You mean when Pierce was at Kansas? At the same age, Pierce had yet to play in a regular season game yet.

Ditto. Doesn't generate enough easy shots for himself to make himself effective on nights where things are not going great.

He may have been sick last night, which could account for his struggle to finish. (He is scratch tomorrow for that reason).  I would not let that one game sway you.

I forgot about that. Thanks.

This is what i'm seeing as well. Last night there was a play in particular where he got into the painted area, did a step back to gain some space on the defender, but he missed the rim entirely.

Honestly it's not just one game, it's his entire body of work so far. He's a good scorer but not a great one. I thought i would be seeing a great scorer at this point, but i don't think he's made a major leap offensively yet.

I would say my biggest concern regarding Tatum's ability to become a high volume scorer is that he doesn't generate a lot of contact.  He is going inside more, which is good, but he is still scores more with grace and agility than strength.

Top scorers tend to buttress their shot-creation prowess with 7-10 free throws attempts a game.

That's the major difference I see between Tatum and Paul Pierce.  Paul was a master at getting to the line and did so frequently.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Say hello to Mr. Hand for me.

I think Tatum had a bad game last night but he was really sharp the game before.  I find it funny that he goes out there and says that training with Kobe didn't hurt his game, then goes out and makes most of his shots more difficult than they had to be, which is the same issue he had last year.

Keep it simple Jayson, make your own path and don't try to be the Mamba.

PP was a lot stronger than Tatum.   He was as a result, strong with the ball and able to play through contact.

Paul was stronger and better at getting to the line, but even taking that out of the equation i felt that he was impossible to stop in one on one situations. When Tatum is in one on one situations, it's hit or miss it seems.
