And this is why Memphis stays bad. They traded for Iggy and now Iggy doesn't want to play for them loL

The Memphis Grizzlies and Andre Iguodala have mutually agreed to let him stay away from the team, sources confirmed to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Memphis has no plans to negotiate a contract buyout and continues to expect that it will find a trade for Iguodala prior to the Feb. 6 deadline, sources said.

I mean, they got picks for taking on Iggy. I don’t think anyone actually thought he’d suit up for a lottery team this year, despite Memphis’ initial protestations otherwise.  If they can get a couple of 2nds for him at the deadline, they’ll have done fine.

He’s someone I’d love to have here, but it doesn’t seem likely the salaries could work out.

FWIW there is at least 1 site that is linking us to him. Seems like baseless speculation but here it is...

Quote
Teams expected to be vying for Iguodala’s services are the Lakers, Celtics and Sixers. The Lakers and Celtics desperately need an upgrade on the defensive end – particularly the Lakers who will have to deal with Kawhi Leonard on the wing.

The issue, of course, is that the Lakers do not have much in the way of assets after unloading all that talent on the Pelicans in the Anthony Davis trade.

The Celtics could offer the best package, and the Grizzlies would love to get their own first round pick back from Boston. But it’s unlikely that Danny Ainge would part with that valuable asset in order to add someone who will be 36 years old this coming January.

Part of the reason the Celtics were so dysfunctional last season was that they had too many mouths to feed. They were too deep.

If the Celtics were to make a move for a veteran like Iguodala, they would be trading players not picks.

I think he might get traded to a different team that buys him out.  The Cavs, for example, are just above the tax line.  I could totally see the Cavs taking on Iggy, but sending out 2 or 3 players that make a bit more than Iggy that gets the Cavs out of the tax and gets Memphis a useful player or two (with potential buy outs to save more money).  Memphis is about 5.5 million below the tax so they could take on a bit of salary to make it work.

Doesn't get Memphis any additional assets, but maybe they see a value in someone like Dellavedova or Henson as opposed to Iggy who isn't playing for them and won't take a discount on the buy out.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Iggy would be a nice pick-up for us to have a veteran with championship experience but not quite sure I see trade match between Memphis and Boston.

FWIW, the Cavs are not really above the tax.  They’re roughly $3 million under with 13 guaranteed salaries. They can keep two non-guaranteed players and get up to 15 while staying under the tax.

Ah.  Spotrac has them above the line.

Celtics have plenty of depth.  They need another top player to go with Kemba, or just hope Hayward and/or Tatum become that guy.

no interest in Iggy.  not enough left in the tank to make it worth trading who we have now that we've cut ties with Yabu.   At most, from a talent perspective, I'd consider trading Semi but he's got some beef we can use at PF and his D is pretty solid so no real practical point to move him for Iggy

Yeah even if they cave and buy him out they got paid to take on his salary into their cap space. They just want another bite at the apple with this; can't blame them for trying even if the player doesn't like it.

We certainly can't afford Iggy without giving up something we wouldn't want to, so it's moot for us.

The Cs are retooling this year, not contending.  Picking up Iggy is a move a contender makes to help defend a star

Would disagree with this assessment.

This trade is successful. I value Nassir Little's upside more than Grayson Allen's:

At this point this is what it seems like the team is hoping/banking on.  No one available at this time to made a deal for and we don't know if the C's are contenders to obtain a glue like vet player.  Right now the roster is set outside of the 15 spot.

Point of information: The Grizzlies are not desperately trying to do anything here, that's literally what the article linked by the OP implies. They know there is every possibility they're in or a long wait til they can get off Iggy for a return they like, and worst case ontario they're buying him out at the deadline.
