This post is motivated by two developments / “facts”:

-There is a growing number of European and African players and other continents of course in the NBA.
-it’s a consensus that American players preferences are: 1.) LA 2.) Miami 3.) NYC

Ok which cities do the foreign players prefer to live in??

I tend to think that international players love Toronto ... great city .. basically a global city with everything that London and NYC have to offer. Ibaka , gasol and siakam loved it there and won a title (even kawhi liked it)

I think Boston is number 2 slightly edging NYC and Miami ...
The relative closeness and “cleanliness” and history of Boston have many people say it’s the most European city in USA ... that’s to be debated.
Baynes , theis (even yabu lol) loved living in the city...

I know that nyc draws a lot of European Jews , Latin America immigrants and people from all over the world but still think that Boston is a bigger draw for foreign born players.

Could we use this to attract the best foreign born players ... and you know who I’m talking about in particular...

Other targets:
Gallinari- if you limit his minutes and he stays healthy he can produce at the superstar level.

7-8 years from now the obvious target would be Doncic...

what can be done by Danny and his team to deliver the message to the above targets and make them want to choose Boston in free agency or only agree to extend with us if we trade for them??

I've always thought nothing is guaranteed so go where the most $ comes from. Live anywhere you want in the off season. You also retire at 35 if you are lucky. So get that check.

Well American max players choose LA and NYC even though their net income after tax is supposedly lower... after reaching a certain threshold of wealth maximizing the paycheck you get from your team isn’t as important...

I would prefer a city that isn't too big like LA/NY, but decently big enough to lead a pretty diverse life as an overseas guy who's never making it to the NBA

I'd generally think East Coast for most guys. Really depends on the individual though, there's so much variety in the US in terms of cities. Could imagine Texas is great for some.

I would have to think Toronto, New York and LA would all be appealing to international players, with Toronto probably most appealing for European players

The upper level stars are looking for marketing opportunities so bigger markets equal more $ for them. Most athletes receive a majority of their income from their sports contract. So team pay and state taxes where you play is often a big factor.

Everyone is different.  New York has the largest foreign-born population in North America. Spanish speakers / Latin Americans may prefer LA or Miami.

But again, it depends. The Gasol brothers both really enjoyed Memphis, which is about as different from Spain as you’ll see in the NBA.
