langford

14-15 on active roster
waters
wanamaker

16-18
struss
tacko
J green

what's you guys thoughts?
figure the breakout to happen like this:
kemba
smart
hayward
brown
tatum
kanter
theis

semi
poirier
williams
edwards
langford
wanamaker
(bolded the players that are the core rotation.  non-bold players will play based on Brad's decisions and matchups)

14-15 on active roster
waters
timelord

A seven-man rotation is short for Brad’s practice of the last few seasons. But your choices look right to me.

Looking at those seven, there are two or possibly three likely expansions of the rotation. Firstly, a swing.  With the departure of Marcus Morris, an opportunity is open for Ojeleye and Grant Williams.

Secondly, an up-tempo point/lead guard off the bench. With the departure of Terry Rozier, an opportunity is open for... Carsen Edwards (!).

'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

Romeo and Timelord

Definitely with you on Romeo in this spot, but I’m projecting TL higher. His high ceiling and unusual skillset - and an open opportunity - mean that he’ll get a lot of minutes. I’m predicting that he’ll be in the rotation by all star break.

oh I'm not saying those 7 are the extent of the rotation, just that those will be the 7 we see night in and night out.  Others will be playing (likely 9-10 deep knowing Brad) but who they'll be will likely change from game to game unless one of them is having a break out season and earns a regular spot.  I think if that were to occur, the most likely candidates will be G-Will, Edwards, Poirier, Langford in that order.  Outside shot Semi gets regular time --> totally reliant on improving his shooting and rebounding.

The coaching staff are looking at a bigger picture than that. His big advantage is his having both strength and speed; he covers a lot of ground, crucial skill for fulfilling the number one priority of the coaching staff: contesting 3-pt shots.

You’re referring to his 3-pt shooting, apparently, when you say “shooting”  though he shot a very robust .565 from 2, and .721 at the rim, a combination of his changing ends so quickly, and getting effective with his finishing in the half-court.

No doubt shooting better from 3 and rebounding like an average wing would help his cause, but his minutes are not “totally reliant” on those things - remember, he got rotation minutes in his rookie year, when his team defense and finishing at the rim were average and below average.

The difference between year 1 and year 2 was opportunity: Marcus Morris was healthy all year.

The main reason that he’ll get minutes is that there’s no one in front of him. Yes, his court time will be a function in part of the overall allocation to the wing group; but only Grant Williams weighs 240.
