Sadly some Celtics fans like the poor misinformed thread starter are still stuck in the past with easy to understand position basketball.

*You must have a Center. He must be 6'11 to 7'2. He rebounds, defends the rim, and blocks shots. If he isn't the rare almost unheard star Center he must then play like Rudy Gobert or certain Celtics fans obsession Mo Bamba.
*You must have a Power Forward. He must be 6'10" or taller. He rebounds and defends. You must post him up. He must play like Kevin McHale or KG.
*You must have a Small Forward. He must be 6'9". He must play like Larry Bird.
*You must have a Shooting Guard. He must be 6'5" to 6'7". He must play like Reggie Miller.
*You must have Point Guard. He must be at 6'1"-6'4". He must pass first but also be able to hit a high % of 3pts. He must play like Isaiah Thomas or KI.

If a coach doesn't fit players into these roles he is somehow a bad coach who is bucking NBA tradition even though the NBA moved away from these roles years ago.

Go ahead KLL and other Celtics fans. Fire Brad Stevens and bring in another NBA retread. And then get ready for 5-10 years of being the Suns or Kings.

what exactly are the Celtics now, with Brad's small ball? A couple of overachieving runs to the ECF. Is that what you want?

With such conviction he wanted to eliminate the power forward position ball handlers wings swings and Biggs everybody was talking about that all the time around here like it was some sort of basketball gospel.

In the end I think the guy was 100% wrong with that weird concept he's also seems to be at odds with Danny Ainge in the style of play we're going to continue to play small ball even though we have five legitimate big man on the roster now.

This will be a telling season for Brad Stevens if he continues to not adapt and play the hand he was dealt instead of trying to fit everybody into his small-ball system and make can't I shoot threes never play Bob Williams, Rarely play Poirier.

Brad Stevens is officially on the hot seat IMO.

TP ....great thread

Yep, just like  I mentioned in another thread before this one.... Brad's honeymoon is over. He needs to deliver especially because he has been given free reign with this small ball three-point jacking big men system of his. Celtics is not Butler.

In general Brad has done a very good job of getting the most out of his players, obviously last year was not his finest, but for the most part he has done a good job. The teams that have been winning in recent years win because of their wings and perimeter players.  Stef, KD, Clay and the Warriors being the main example. Yes KD is tall, but he's a wing. The Raptors were also led by their perimeter players, yes they had Gasol and Ibaka, but they were not the reason the Raptors won. Kawhi and Lowry were the main reason that the Raptor won. In the modern NBA wings and guards have been the driving force in winning. Moreover, the Celts best players are their guards and wings, wishing they had elite bigs does not help. Brad needs to coach the talent he has.

I disagree that Lowry and Kawhi were the reasons Toronto won. Toronto won because of the entirety of their team. To suggest that the presence of bigs like Ibaka, Gasol, and Siakam, did not give the wings free reign to roam and create is short sighted. Toronto had an impressive collection of bigs that contributed immensely to their championship.

At this point just from the thread title you know it comes from these same people. If you can't adapt, the times will surely leave you behind. And boy, you are clearly so left behind.

Where were you when the Warriors won 3 of 4 with their Death Lineup? Oh that's right, stuck in the past.

There is a lot I don't like about BS. But I wouldn't say he is trying to eliminate positions. It's more about roles and skills he wants for his system. Could he be more adaptive, sure, yet so far things are working. In fairness he doesn't have a top ten player and you usually need one of those to get to the finals and win.

You realize that's probably the worst comment in the history of the internet.

Bob Myers gets all the credit there. Rightfully so. Perfect 10 GM Job.

They had Four of the best players in the NBA.

Green is the best small ball forward In the league he also has a 7'2" wingspan

Grant Williams is 6'9.5" for comparison.

Durant is almost 7' with an insanely long 7'5" wingspan.

Klay Thompson is 6'7" long great defender.

It's the players not the system Einstein.

Without shoes Grant Williams is only 6-5 3/4

With shoes Grant Williams is 6-7.

Read the sentence before, he's talking about Grant Williams' wingspan. Though I just looked that up and some places say 6-11.

I’m confused about the point here

Boston has overachieved its talent level each year but this one where the problems ran a lot deeper than not having a true power forward or whatever.

So is the suggestion that Boston has gone out of its way to avoid adding talented big men in search of small ball? Because that seems crazy.

Stevens has shown he’s more than willing to give real bigs minutes together we’ve seen tons of Al-Amir and Al Baynes lineups in the last few years and if you go way back you get a bunch of Sulliger Zeller and Sullinger Olynyk etc

Ainge has tried to add as much talent as possible and the talent has presumably become available at a much higher rate at non big positions

I really don’t see what the specific complaint here is. Do you really blame Brads system for the team failing to make a finals???

NBA combine results were under 6'10
