Kevin Durant Initially Objected To S&T, Forced Warriors To Include pick

Kevin Durant initially objected to the sign-and-trade scenario involving D'Angelo Russell going to the Golden State Warriors.

The Brooklyn Nets had enough cap space to sign Durant outright and there was no specific advantage for him to help the Warriors.

Multiple sources told Brian Windhorst that Durant didn't want to be traded for Russell straight up because he didn't think it was a fair deal. The Warriors had to convince Durant of the trade on top of the Nets.

The Warriors had to give up a first round pick for Durant to sign off on the deal, though it is top-20 protected next year.

Come on guys, Kevin Durant is a stunning hero. His decision to join Golden State was nothing short of courageous and they had no chance in that 4-0 sweep of the Cavs without him.

Actually the player has to agree to be in a sign and trade.  So it most certainly had to do with KD and he was within his rights to say NO.

He did not object getting traded to the Nets , he did not ask a higher salary or some other option in his new contract. He forced a team to trade an extra asset. How can this be his bussiness

This article specifically states that he did object to being traded which forced the extra compensation.  KD was a free agent.  He agreed to sign with the Nets who had plenty of cap space.  The notion of making it a sign and trade for Russell came up several days later.  The CBA no longer allows a player to get the extra year and salary in a sign and trade.

It helped the Nets too.  They didn’t just send out DeAngelo Russell, they sent out other salary that enabled them to give more money to DeAndre Jordan.

We heard that the Nets were demanding a 1st from the Celtics to help with a S&T — was that Kyrie lulling the same thing as Durant?

This version doesn’t make any sense.  If KD’s ego said “I’m better than Russell, I can’t be traded straight up for him” shouldn’t the Nets have been the team to give Golden State the pick, since they’re the ones getting the better player?
