Maybe Miami gets a couple picks for taking him....instead of giving up something good for Westbrook.

I think the Rockets gotten better on paper talent-wise.

Let's see how this'll play out on the court, though. Definitely changes the structure in the Western Conference a bit. But I still have Clippers taking the conference, Lakers probably the 2 or 3 seed.

If OKC stays healthy... and that's a huge if... but if they do I could see them being a darkhorse to make the playoffs.

I wonder if Cleveland wanted to get out of Kevin Love's contract if they'd trade him to OKC for the 1 year left on Gallo's contract.  OKC could even include one of their plethora of picks back to Cleveland.  Something like: Love + Jordan Clarkson + Osman for Gallinari + Dennis Schroeder + Patterson + protected pick.  More sense if Schroeder went to a third team like Milwaukee, Philly, or Minnesota.

Not caught up on the thread but has anyone mentioned Minnesota as a destination for CP3? He doesn't fit their timeline with KAT but they've been shopping for a new PG and if they could get rid of Wiggins' contract I think they might talk themselves into it. Problem is I'm not sure they'd cough up the extra considerations OKC would probably want for taking it on.

I think CP3's contract is probably worse than Wiggins?  CP3 is NOT going to be getting better over the next few years.  Wiggins at least could, he's still only 24.  I don't think Minnesota would have to cough anything else up except enough salary to match.

That's the tough part, from OKC's perspective it's 1-2 more years of a guy they do NOT want to rebuild around as a max player. Also they're gonna milk it for more picks/prospects if they can. But if Minnesota thinks like you do, they balk and it probably doesn't get done.

I thought the Knicks should've fired D'Antoni the moment they made the trade for Melo. They didn't. They wasted a bunch of time trying to be fair to D'Antoni even though it was clear he was the wrong guy for the job. Houston need to do better. Be proactive. And fire D'Antoni right away.

I get what you're saying, but do you believe Harden and/or Westbrook are capable of major changes to their approach?  In fairness to D'Antoni, his ISO system enabled Harden and CP3 to nearly defeat the Warriors two seasons ago.  Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it would be very difficult for a new coach to get them to buy in to a new approach.  The two of them will believe that they can be an upgraded version of the recent squad. 


For the record, I can't stand the Rockets style of play.  It's completely unsustainable for long term success.  That said, the Rockets have already gone too far down this road.  Harden and Westbrook will need to fail together before the Rockets bring in a new coach.

D'Anntoni was a coach of the year candidate in Houston. With Harden and Westbrook, he's going to have them running and launching at will. That team will score like crazy.

What's the alternative approach?  A new coach only makes sense under the assumption that Harden and Westbrook are willing to embrace a new style of play.  The Houston Rockets, win or lose, are going to be the Harden and Westbrook show.  There's no changing the precedent that D'Antoni set over the past 3 seasons.
