Does anyone else think that the Celtics just avoided a big pitfall of Horford and Irving leaving in the same year? I think many other teams (around 26 or 27) wouldn't be able to rebound on the fly like Danny did in the past couple of weeks.
I think it is reasonable to say that Kyrie>Kemba. It's also reasonable to say that Kemba is a better fit than Kyrie.
Horford is better than Kanter. Fact. Another fact: Horford is going to make a lot more $ than Kanter over the next two years. We don't quite know the opportunity cost of that move. I'm going with the young guy on the cheap deal over the older guy who prefers to stretch vs pound down low.
Rookies: Really like the Carsen Edwards and Grant Williams picks. I think they will play this year.
IMO, the Celtics did not improve. They did, however, avoid a cliff that Toronto, GS, OKC, etc are facing.
I think it was a great offseason.
I think they did improve, addition by subtraction, and the future is now in the hands of Tatum and Brown.
Kemba gives them the All-NBA talent to make them competitive on their own...with Tatum, Brown, and Hayward? That is the best team he has ever been on.
I love the draft picks they made this year, given where they were. I love the fact that they are back to focusing on high-IQ, high-character, high-productivity guys like Williams and Edwards to slot in as role players.
I think Danny learned his lesson with Kyrie and to a lesser extent, Terry Rozier. Having bad character guys, even if they are talented, can submarine a team. Hopefully we do not see that this year.
