Does anyone else think that the Celtics just avoided a big pitfall of Horford and Irving leaving in the same year? I think many other teams (around 26 or 27) wouldn't be able to rebound on the fly like Danny did in the past couple of weeks.

I think it is reasonable to say that Kyrie>Kemba. It's also reasonable to say that Kemba is a better fit than Kyrie.

Horford is better than Kanter. Fact. Another fact: Horford is going to make a lot more $ than Kanter over the next two years. We don't quite know the opportunity cost of that move. I'm going with the young guy on the cheap deal over the older guy who prefers to stretch vs pound down low.

Rookies: Really like the Carsen Edwards and Grant Williams picks. I think they will play this year.

IMO, the Celtics did not improve. They did, however, avoid a cliff that Toronto, GS, OKC, etc are facing.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

You know it's okay to say the team improved... Why are people afraid to admit that?

We were a second-round body last year... Heck of all the second round matchups we were the only ones who were not competitive.

Last years team was not better than the IT lead team if we want to be honest... (That team had way less Talent)

yes, we had a great player but he is a Great player when playing with a Greater player...

Good point, the Kemba signing was definitely a relief.

Looking forward to 2019-2020 and how they play with Kemba instead of Kyrie and without Horford... plus best of all no Rozier and Morris ball-stopping and chucking.  :)

like the pickup of Kemba and Kanter but they're not as good as Kyrie and Al.  add in the losses of Morris and Rozier, it hasn't been a great offseason and with the incredibly thin bench we have, I'm not terribly relieved or of the belief we're better than last year in terms of talent.

I AM hoping that the team will be much more enjoyable to watch next year.

We're not better as of now. My post was intended to point out that we didn't get crushed like other contenders, such as GS, TOR, and OKC. There were a lot of anxious Celtics fans contemplating worst case scenarios. We got nowhere near the collapse that could have been.

I'm not worried (at all) about losing Terry Rozier and Marcus Morris.

The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

I think it was a great offseason.

I think they did improve, addition by subtraction, and the future is now in the hands of Tatum and Brown.

Kemba gives them the All-NBA talent to make them competitive on their own...with Tatum, Brown, and Hayward?  That is the best team he has ever been on.

I love the draft picks they made this year, given where they were.  I love the fact that they are back to focusing on high-IQ, high-character, high-productivity guys like Williams and Edwards to slot in as role players.

I think Danny learned his lesson with Kyrie and to a lesser extent, Terry Rozier.  Having bad character guys, even if they are talented, can submarine a team.  Hopefully we do not see that this year.

I am worried about our defense, and how TBH fit this season.  Keeping my expectations in check.  Last season hurt.

I am worried about the interior defense giving up easy shots, but I think/hope that will be balanced by much fewer 2nd and 3rd chance shots because Kanter and the rest will get more rebounds and that will also give us more fast break opportunities.

I definitely feel a sense of relief that the guys who seemed like they were the biggest instigators of the negative atmosphere around the team are gone.

We definitely landed on our feet, but Horford, Baynes and Morris will be missed. I think there continues to be a deficit of veteran leadership.

TP to the OP.  It looked like we were at that OKC/Toronto cliff and it was pretty depressing for a couple weeks.  It was indeed a great save to avoid going over that cliff.

Of course we will miss Al’s veteran leadership but it’s tough to determine what amount of good his leadership did last season.  There is a chance that next years team will be better than last years with one more tweak of the roster to get a decent big man.

Horford's play and leadership won't be replaced this year.

Kemba and Hayward will provide more leadership this year than both Baynes and Morris, in my opinion. Hayward will have a bigger role than he did last year.

I think Kemba will be a better leader than Kyrie.

I think the key loss is Horford, and that's about it. While both Morris and Baynes are veterans, I wouldn't consider them leaders.

Learning how toxic Jaylen/Kyrie and all the rest was, yeah its a relief the team pivoted and got good talent with what they had.

Its better to have Kemba over Horford in the end if it was an either/or situation, but I'll miss him playing in green.
