I am glad he decided to get leaner. Last year I thought he was waaay too bulky/big. May have been on account of the injury but I don’t ever remember him that big. I think it messed with his burst/shot.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I’m very hopeful for a Gordon Hayward resurgence, but this means absolutely nothing.

what means absolutely nothing? Lets hope Robert Williams and Tatum are working hard too, and not just goofing off in the off season. The players that take their jobs as a year round job rather than 8 month job are generally more successful.
Been a bunch of reports about Williams being in the training facility all off-season. If I recall correctly Brad or Danny singled he and Hayward out primarily as the guys who he'd seen most around the practice facility.
This, is why i have a problem for Brown's "travel around the world plus workout" attitude

It's all cool and fine as a person to have multiple interest , but as a NBA player it's not desirable, especially when you haven't prove yourself(as a star/perennial starter), he lacks determination

As previous poster said, whether Hayward and Williams will succeed i do not know, but if they fail it won't be due to to lack of effort

Lol - Jaylen travels for a couple of weeks a year after the season to interesting, exotic places and documents it. I highly doubt it interrupts his off-season workout regimen. Btw, have you seen the kind of shape the guy is in and the fact that every season he adds a new wrinkle to his game?

He is now the VP of the NBPA and also recently became a fellow of the MIT Media Lab Director's Fellows program. While other guys are playing NBA2K, Jaylen is trying to make the most of his time here on earth. Sorry the beginning of his 2018-19 season didn't go as you had hoped, but I don't think his work ethic is something you should harp on.

it's great that Hayward is getting into better shape but where he really needs to improve is making shots and being more aggressive on offense

I agree.  I guess the hope would be that if he feels stronger/quicker, it will breed confidence that helps with the mental side.

A healthy, more confident Hayward would be like signing a max free agent star for us in the offseason. This is encouraging. I am hoping for a great season from him. It could be a huge X factor for us if he can return to being a star combined with Kemba, Brown, Tatum and Smart, we could be exciting to watch once again.

I dont see a leaner Hayward playing pf.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Tatum should be PF.  Much bigger frame.  Needs to add some bulk of course, but he is the guy I always thought was headed to the PF position (especially as the league continues to mostly get smaller).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

hope it helps but I have to admit I was really disappointed in him this season with his shooting.  a shooter can shoot, period.  doesn't matter their shape.  if they're open, they hit their shots.  not to say shooters don't have an off night, but Hayward's shot was off pretty much the whole season.

Crossing my fingers for Hayward to find his confidence and to be the guy he showed flashes of late last year.

That said, Morrison clearly likes to talk the players up. The other day he said he was really surprised by how quick Tacko Fall was.

It's hard to be sure. He put together some good stretches in the last half of the year. February through April (26 games), he shot 39% (24/62) from three. That's wayyy too small a sample size to be sure, and if he was feeling confident he'd probably be launching another attempt per game. Like a lot of his game, there are little hints and flashes - maybe that's all he's going to show or maybe he'll be able to hold onto it next year.

Like i said, that's all cool and fine for a person perspective, but when he is on the plane or cars traveling from gyms to gyms, or preparing the speech,  he can't do workouts, I'm sure he worked as hard as he can during his workouts, and he certainly did improve year after year, but is that the best he can do? did he do more workouts than those guys who live in the gym? i will have to put a question mark on it

The determination is what separates good and great, he talks big and obviously have a ton of confidence in himself, but can he(or is he willing to) reach his basketball ceiling, with that kind of attitude i just don't think so

I used to assume it's because he need to play the PF, but obviously Tatum is going to take that role

I think it's best we all don't expect anymore he will be the player we wanted him to be.

He already is expected to take Morris's spot in the rotation so if we get Morris type production and then some then fine, I'm just hopeful he just doesn't do anymore zero point or 2 point performances....make atleast a minimum of 5, I don't think that's too much to ask right?.
