How is Theis getting paid 10 million for two seasons? He was hot garbage last season.

I do like the intriguing possibilities in the front court that DA has created! I think there will still be moves though. The roster is really top heavy with bigs now, not a surprise as the coaching staff needs to see who can play, how to knit a team together that can play well at both ends of the court - plus some of these guys need some seasoning in Maine. Of 16 guys on the roster by my count, I doubt they are all capable of making the roster. I suspect by trade or some other concoction DA gets some more players win for camp:

Ball Handlers - Walker, Smart, Edwards, Waters
Wings - Tatum, Hayward, Brown, Langford
Bigs - Kanter, Poirier, Theis, G. Williams, Ojeleye, R. Williams, Yabusele, Fall
It makes sense what they're doing.  The top 6 will get the lions share of the minutes then lots of competition for the remainder of the rotation - and lots of roster flexibility should an opportunity arise to really strengthen the team moving forward.

The guys they have should play hard every night and with Brad's ability to mix/match they should be able to punch above their weight a little bit as Brad's teams have in the past.

If it looks like they can make a run, then Danny can likely trade for veteran help for the bench or explore the buyout market.  I would give Ainge a solid A- for what he's done since May.

I take it the 2nd year is an option - for player or team is my question?

It's a tad overpay IMO. He and his agent must have seen how desperate the C's are for bigs.

His contract can also be used at the deadline to help match salaries...

I like Theis' game and am very happy to have him back.  I think he can be a solid rotational player.

This. The Celtics do not have an overpaid player last year (I know some people will say Hayward or Horford, but that's very arguable) and while it is good, it is also bad trade-wise. Its harder to match salaries when all you have are Max guys and guys on their rookie deals. The few people in the midrange left are guys you don't want to trade (Baynes, Smart).

That was the main purpose of absorbing Zeller's salary a few years back.

As much as I like seeing the fellow german playing in Boston... I fear gouki88 might be right...
on the other hand... I don't see any team that would be interested in taking him.
