Signed for 3 years 63 million with the Knicks...

Thats A LOT of production on a cheap contract...

Randle seems like a guy who was once so overrated that he is now underrated. That is a decent deal for him and the Knicks. If he continues to produce, that contract will absolutely be movable. If he can ever improve his defense, he will be a force in the middle (a lot to ask).

People are laughing at the Knicks on this one, but it seemed like a good gamble once all of the top FAs dried up. It's not like he's a re-tread like so many former Knicks' big FA signings.

Actually, he's an extremely efficient scorer.  His true shooting percentage last year was 60%, and his eFG% was .55

He attempted 6.7 FT a game (more than any Celtic), has improved every year of his career and he's only 24 years old...

No clue why the Celtics would not be in the mix for him given he was available at such a discount.

Wish the Celtics had signed him. Good deal for the Knicks.
Not so sure about Portis and Bullock.

Seems like signing Randle/Bryant was possible for the Celtics.

I'm not sure he'd put up those numbers on a good team, and I don't rate his defence.

Perfect guy for the Knicks though..

I'm aware of his counting stats, they are largely empty. He doesn't help his team win games. He hurt the NOP when he was on the court.

Besides the C's could only go after one big dollar FA with their cap space. I'm much happier with Kemba.

So, in the end, Randle got a more valuable contract then Smart. I remember the days of us comparing the two over and over. I think Smart has more of an impact on a playoff team but money never lies..does it?  :'( I guess it helps to have the Knicks as desperate as it gets as well as they prepare for Giannis in 2021(dont see that happening either. He seems like someone who would not be drawn to NYC but who knows).

Scoring gets you paid in the NBA. Not winning and certainly not first team all-defense. That's always been the case.

I wouldn't consider the Knicks spending to the salary floor a great measure of value for players though. Also after what Rozier got, I think Marcus could have gotten a lot more money this year as an unrestricted free agent.

You make it out as if $20m+ a season is some small amount. The AAV of Randle's contract isn't much less than All-Star Vucevic, who is a better defender, shooter and rebounder. Also, the C's weren't in the running because they were busy signing an All-NBA guard

My point is just that it's a great contract.  For example, it's about 65% of what Gordon Hayward got paid for the same production in his contract year.

It was really just a matter of time before you made this some boring attack on Hayward. It's not that great a contract, considering he plays no offence

Comparing what guys get paid in different contract years to determine relative market value is pretty meaningless. A lot more cash was around this year vs last year.

I disagree, I think the Patriots have proven salary management is the most important aspect of constructing a winning franchise and culture.
