Do we still have Bird rights on Morris?  Or will we after all the dust settles?  Spotrac still lists him as a hold.  It appears to me that with Horford and Kyrie renounced and Kemba added, we are still under the cap so we don't need to renounce him (and we didn't renounce Theis).

We do presently but will not be able to retain them and sign Kemba unless Philly or Brooklyn agree to a S&T. We’d have to renounce Morris’ cap gold to sign Kemba to a max deal which gets rid of his Bird rights.

Puff piece about Hayward's progress, but still nice to hear.

https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/hungry-gordon-hayward-looking-stronger-faster-leaner-celtics-workouts

"He’s getting stronger, getting faster, getting leaner, and, from a basketball perspective, it’s hard to test things like that, but I think he looks pretty good. His shot and ball-handling is a lot crisper. He’s just hungry to get better. I don’t want to speak for him but I’m very happy with the effort and progress that he’s putting in.”

I actually don't mind the Theis signing/overpay some consider. Option to use the money later via trade

There are still some interesting PF free agents on the market that honestly feel like better investments than a few persons on the team.

I would rather a Dragan Bender than a Yabu honestly.

Yabu is more than likely trade fodder. With the trade ale contracts of Kanter and Theis, there is no way he’s on the roster after the trade deadline.

Do we really think that the defence will be that bad? Kanter is actually ok at PnR defence, we have Williams learning in the NBA all the time and Theis who gives us the ability to switch more.

We rely on team defenders and guys communicating well to achieve our great defence. I don't see a reason that Kanter can't be a good team defender, and he talks.

I think our biggest defensive issue the last few years has been weak side help. That's much less on the big and more on the 2-3-4 guys. They haven't changed from last year so to me the development really needs to come from guys like Tatum and Brown if we want to remain a top defensive unit.

We basically have 6 players and then a bunch of filler. I suppose this isn't the worst thing in the world with the 'too many mouths to feed' narrative, but we are basically throwing a bunch of *stuff* at the wall and seeing what sticks from 7-10 in the rotation. We certainly can't afford any injuries to our top 6 players.

Hopefully a couple of them pan out - guys like Poirier, Edwards, and G Williams might really surprise early on.We should be able to turn a couple of these players (and a pick?) into one productive piece at the deadline, as well. This is where having the full MLE AND the BAE would have been helpful.

I don’t think they will be elite like they have been the last few years. I also don’t think they will be a train wreck. I think they’ll be a middle of the pack team defensively.

Offensively, I think we will see a huge improvement.

The team can still switch everything up top, but having Williams underneath will be a big improvement (with some more earned minutes).  The hope is Williams is like year 2 of Rudy Gobert (`2014).  Knowing there is a presence protecting the rim makes a difference.

This was said leading into his second season (also with Kanter in the fold ironically).

The Utah Jazz have only two centers on their 2013-14 roster, one of whom, Enes Kanter, averaged only seven points and four rebounds per game last season. That means Rudy Gobert could contend to be a starter or a key player off the bench. Gobert made nearly 74 percent of his shots last season but he clearly needs to refine his game after averaging only eight points and five rebounds per game.

Gobert's greatest contributions this season may be altering shots and keeping opposing players out of the paint, which won't be reflected by his stats, but he can be an immediate contributor for Utah this season based on his size.

I really like that we are lining up for a trade.

Kanter - 4.8 mill
Theis - 4.8 mill
Yabusele - 3.1 mill

all own picks moving forwards, Bucks and Memphis picks
Rookies

All lines up to be able to make a deal involving these players as soon as October.

also still have a 1.3 million TPE. Technically we could offer a future pick and TPE for WCS.

1. Walker
2. Brown
3. Hayward
4. Tatum
5. Kanter

bench :
1. Smart
2. Edwards
3. G. Williams
4. Theis
5. Poirier

Hopefully, R. Williams can make a contribution as a rotational big. I believe Edwards and G. Williams will surprise a lot of people. Hopefully, Danny can get an upgrade for a rim protecting big at the trade deadline. Barring significant injuries, I can see this team winning 53 games next season.

Very thin roster. Some moves have to be coming...
