No true stretch 4s so roster is still unbalanced.

Look what Bleacher Report suggests:

I hate that idea.  First, I'm not ready to give up on the possibility of Hayward returning to form.  You remove Hayward and our offense has minimal playmaking ability.  Love can stretch the floor and rebound, but good luck relying on him against teams like Toronto (if Kawhi stays), Philly, or Milwaukee.  His lack of lateral quickness would make us a terrible defensive team.

Despite adding Grant Williams, I'd also like to trade one our wings for PJ Washington and whatever else we deserve in the trade....

Washington will be another legit tough and high IQ PF, slightly undersized.  But he could play in front of or behind G. Williams and they can also play together with G. Williams at center.

In any case they'd be nice complements to Kanter, R. Willams and Poirier.

I think Hayward is going to be the starting PF, at least nominally.  He'll play SF minutes with the bench as well, I'd imagine.

And JB will probably cover the 4s

Barring any major changes, it looks like Grant Williams will have every opportunity to carve out a large role on the team.  He's the only player who qualifies as a true Power Forward.  I don't think it's hyperbole to suggest that he has one of the most versatile skill sets on the entire roster.  Let's hope that it translates quickly,

I love how this undersized PF, late first round rookie is already a major rotation player on the team! He hasn't even had a chance to fail in summer league yet and people have him as "the man"! I need to do more drugs! ::)

You missed a key word in my post, that being "opportunity".  The team doesn't have a power forward with a versatile skill set.  I also closed my post by saying "let's hope it translates quickly", meaning that I'm not convinced he will be ready to contribute right away.

Are you telling me that there's no way he can earn significant minutes if he impresses during training camp and pre-season?  I suppose I shouldn't make the same mistake again, so I will define "significant" minutes as 15+.  Is that completely far-fetched given the current roster construction?

Sorry didn't mean to call you out out, I see a lot of people doing this and yes you did a good job of trying to say "hopefully". Don't get me wrong I hope he's the next Karl Malone! But I think rookies usually take time and I never hold out hope on late picks. If he gets 15+ mpg is that a sign he's really good early or like you said our bigs are that bad? Because if it's our bigs are that bad than the season is lost and Danny should really be thinking of next year now.

I think other than PG all positions are given based on defense IMO. PG is the only position that matters on offense because they handle the ball, set plays, make plays for others. If you're a big that plays in the post or at the top of the key it doesn't matter but if you're a big that can't defend low post players I'd say you're a PF vs. a center, does that make sense?

In a switching defense it doesn't seem to matter much anymore I'm just asking if JB is going to defend the PF than he's playing PF?

Assuming Love contract would be a disaster. Would hamstring us for 4 years. NO thanks.

No worries!  To answer your question, it's probably a combination of both.  As much as I like Daniel Theis, I'm concerned that the team doesn't have a competent playmaker at the 4 or 5 spot.  I hope that Grant Williams can provide a solid combination of passing, rebounding, and decent shooting in year 1.  It would be nice to give some relief to Hayward and/or Tatum at the 4 spot.

Starting
Here is my take on the C’s now.  I hope BS uses the bigs as bruising punishing big men that they are.  Keep Theis as a PF an let the bigs play like bigs and beat up the other team down low.  Thank you DA for finally getting some strong tough bigs to set the tone in the playoffs.
The second team should be fun to watch.  Just a bunch of thugs that will beat you up.
C- Kanter
F- Hayward
F- Tatum
G- Brown
G- Walker

Bench

C- Poirier/Robert Williams—true centers—TY DA
F- Theis/Grant Williams. Keep Theis at PF,  he is not a center
F- Semi/Theis—-weak spot. Would like Morris back he is tough and can shoot
G- Smart/Langford
G- Smart/Edwards. The guard could be optional depending on the match ups

Just my humble take on the team now.  I am much happier today than a few days ago.

Do we still have Bird rights on Morris?  Or will we after all the dust settles?  Spotrac still lists him as a hold.  It appears to me that with Horford and Kyrie renounced and Kemba added, we are still under the cap so we don't need to renounce him (and we didn't renounce Theis).

I don’t know all the rules the NBA has instituted but I would love to have Morris back.  He is the extra PF the C’s need that is a complete player.  I was impressed with his shooting and he is tough.  He is exactly the kind of player you need to win championships with.

in case this was not posted earlier, Theis has signed a 2 year $10million ($5M per year) deal with the celtics.

ainge is smart. he now has a number of non-essential pieces with enough salary to make a trade for a more important player should the opportunity arise.

Unfortunately, keeping Hayward and Morris isn't a good idea. It's just one too many volume shooters. Morris might actually fit better in a vacuum, but there just aren't enough of those roles. They can't make the same mistake again.

Depends on the starting center.

Hayward at pfbis worse than tatum at pf defensively.

Hayward at pf means smart is on the bench.

And we have 2 knowns.

Kanter is one of the worst defensive centers in the league and kemba is not very good either.

Imo, if kanter and kemba are starting you need the best defense on the wings you can play.....and that without a doubt is smart and jaylen
