Yeah I genuinely think Kawhi Leonard is going to the Lakers. LeBron and Davis are trying to formally pitch Leonard. It's gonna be a long decade for the Celtics as we watch the Lakers surpass us in titles  :'(

The Lakers literally went from being a dysfunctional organization to being favorites to winning it all next season in just 4 months. Crazy.

This seems dramatic. Why are you so sure he's going there?

I voted for Wouldn't Impact It because as a I stated in another thread recently, I've given up expecting the Celtics to compete for a championship.  I will watch them because I enjoy the team and its journey throughout any season, starting with the draft.

I believe that the true measure of success for any team is whether it meets, exceed or fall's short of it's potential (based on its talent level).  And that's enough for me to get enjoyment from the sport  despite being forced to watch Scalabrine and Kyle Draper 90 times a year..lol

Also there are no guarantees of Laker success. If you fill out a roster with minimum vets, G-League talent and ring chasers - one injury and they're going to have problems.  Plus Lebron is a crappy GM and Pelinka is nothing to write home about.   They won't bring in the right guys.

But I am looking forward to the owners hard balling the players when they negotiate the next collective bargaining agreement because this team up with your friends/superteam stuff needs to end.

He's from LA. He originally wanted to go back to LA to play for his hometown team. And he accomplished his goal as a 2x NBA champ, helping a franchise win their first title.

I wouldn't stop watching, but it would bother me.

Also, the conspiracy theorist in me would think the fix is on.

The league seems obsessed with the Lakers becoming good again.

Has anyone watched ESPN lately?

They literally have everyone pegged as a Laker from Butler to Irving to Kawhi. It's ridiculous.

Not to mention, they would get every call from the officials and this year there's no Warriors to stop them with an injured Klay and injured (and possibly departing) Durant.

It would make me sick to my stomach.

That sounds just as likely as the Clippers then, except the Clippers have Jerry West as a consultant.

Yeah, I think it's more likely he either stays in Toronto for perhaps a 1 + 1 deal or goes to the Clips instead. But, sadly nothing would surprise me

I thought six months ago, we were going to be re-signing Kyrie and acquiring AD this summer and, well........

No.

Let's be honest, this wouldn't be a discussion if the Celtics were in position to pull this off.

But hey, people wanted a warm and fuzzy team so don't hate the Lakers because their team of jerks and divas could get them a 17th banner.

I mean, the second reply goes pretty much directly against this:

So much so that even if the C's were in the same position I would look at it as bad for the league.

It does not fit the Kyrie is a victim narrative. Even after the whole world knows that Kyrie was a bum with the Celtics some just refuse to accept it.

Hearing Leonard wants Magic Johnson to attend free agency meeting with the Lakers to meet him. But NBA does not allow because he's no longer contracted with the Lakers.

But Lakers fans are complaining how it's unfair that Tom Brady could pitch in free agency meeting for the Celtics and not Magic.

Thoughts?

makes no sense ex-players have been allowed in the past. The more pertinent question is why does he want Magic there? Sounds like he may have cultivated a relationship with Magic (tampering) while Magic was a Laker executive. Under the post I just made Magic Johnson would be considered a Laker insider and would be covered by anti-tampering rules even if he had never been a Laker executive.

With the recent news, it's safe to say that Leonard does not want Lebron at the meeting. I wonder why is that. Imagine if he goes to Jeanie and Magic and say: "Look, I always wanted to play for the Lakers, but I'm not gonna be second banana to Lebron. I've beat him in the past and just won a championship with Toronto. He, on the other hand, missed the playoffs last year. So, it's me or him. I'll sign a 4 year offer sheet with the lakers if you get rid of Lebron. It's that simple. Jeanie, you talk to Rob and find a way to trade him. Magic, you are in charge of giving Lebron the news. If you don't do that, I'm signing with the Clippers with Butler, Horford, or anyone else and will be glad to keep you from winning any championship in the next years".  Hahahah  That would be GREAT, not the part of Leonard actually going to the Lakers to play with Anthony Davis, but to see Lebron orchestrate this coup to take over the Lakers and the league and don't reap any benefit from it.

My thoughts are that Magic is the one releasing this information to make himself look wanted and needed.

Leonard joining the Lakers would be a lot more extreme than Durant joining the Warriors.  Durant joined the Warriors because he was unable to get it done leading his own team.  Leonard just proved he could lead a team to a championship.  Leonard is already able to be the main man on a championship team.  It would be waste of his ability at this point in his career to be 1/3 of an all top 5 in the league superstar big 3.
