  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Yeah awful lot of pressure to give a top 20 player (top 5 pg) in a 30 team league a max contract. Oh, and he’ll be under contract from ages 29 through 33, which is veteran prime. Oh, and we do not have a point guard.. Oh, and the 2020 free agency class is pitiful, so the cap rollover would be wasted after we extend Tatum and Brown.

Tough choice...  ::)

Oh, and we can stop comparing him to IT? He’s 4 inches taller. That’s like saying Kemba and Harden are about the same height. Or Jaylen Brown and Dwight Howard are about the same height.

Yeah, this is my take as well. This is similar to the Gordon Hayward FA frenzy. Obviously that hasn't worked out as planned, but it was our last chance at cap space and we used it to sign an All-Star wing who also happened to be a disciple of Brad's.

Kemba actually may be considered better than Hayward when we signed him or, at the very least, in the same class. I think most of us are just a bit shocked at how things have gone. No AD, Kyrie is ditching us, Al is ditching us...and then all of a sudden an All-NBA PG wants to sign here. How many people actually had this as a possibility going into the offseason?

Kyrie and Kemba are both similarly effective PGs, but Kemba will be immensely more popular than Kyrie with the moderate-intense Cs fans...along with the all-important media.

Al has not ditched us. Danny doesn't want to compete with his open market value, and it's his last big contract. He would come back in a second if we gave him a competitive offer.

Kyrie ditched us.

Semantics, and I was just trying to make a point. Al and Jaylen have been my favorite recent players. He did opt out of $30M. I also think he would have been more amenable to re-signing at a 'discount' if we had Kyrie and AD moving forward. Al was leaving what appeared to be a sinking ship...and I can't blame him.

It appears to possibly be working in our favor now, though. Kemba is at least considered a better player than Al so it might be a better use of our max dollars moving forward...BUT, Horford, Rozier, and Morris could have been retained if we were able to come to terms with Al. We also would have been able to use the full MLE and BAE - so the cupboard may be a bit bare unless Danny can work things out, especially with the front court.

to be honest, celtics may be better off having less "mouths to feed" in Kemba/Brown/Tatum/Hayward...and then sign guys who will play their "role" behind them. than had they resigned guys like rozier/morris

Do we still have the option for a sign and trade with Rozier if he signs with another team (for something like our avery bradley/morris trade)

Best case is to get off Rozier+Brown(for value) and Re-sign Kyrie
But it seemed some Celtic fans wants Kyrie gone and is pushing him away, so if he leave Kemba will be a nice replacement

Oh the irony of this post.

I get the point that the cap space will be wasted if we don’t sign someone.

But can someone explain to me why Kemba is a “perfect fit in Stevens system”? Next year we will have a similar team to last year, minus the only steady force in Horford. How do we feed all the months? Or are you suggesting we build around Kemba instead J&J?

Is there no better use of the cap? Can we absorb a contract like Steven Adams? If we offer 4year 140m to a 29 year old Kemba, how tradable is that contract?

They say Brad Stevens is the Point Guard Whisperer.

According to that article I read, Kemba's potential will be maximized under Brad.

I struggle to understand why Kemba Walker, he’s a similar player to Kyrie, but older, worse, and not finals proven. How does he fit with Hayward, and the Js, wouldn’t he take away their shots too. Is Angie trying to make up losing out on AD and AL, Kyrie?

LOL.

As many years in the NBA as Kyrie.

Last year, his best year.

Kyrie got trampled in 2nd round in only playoff for the Celtics.

Kemba carried UConn to a championship.

So...LOL.

2 years older, less efficient scorer and same bad defence, that’s older and worse.

A college basketball champion? Since when it’s comparable with a NBA title? So NOT FINAL PROVEN.

most scoring point guards have thrived in stevens system.

Kemba is not a headcase like Kyrie.....and you will be getting rid of Morris/Rozier...who took up alot of shots.

if your distribution is between Kemba/tatum/brown/hayward....plenty of shots to go around
