In many (most?) cases, aren’t the “owners” more like the head of an business entity controlling the operations of the club? If they have the controlling stake rather than 100% ownership, it’s a fairly legitimate title.

As far as the semantics of it, I don’t think it much matters. Being politically correct isn’t a bad thing, and it harms absolutely nobody to call owners a different title. There’s no reason to oppose the plan unless you just want to be a stick in the mud about PC culture.

if they are not owners what are they .

most business if not nearly all are OWNED by someone , family  business group,or stockholders .

your either working for someone who owns a business ( NBA) or your self employeed.   NBA players currently playing ..nearly all don't own any part of a team they have signed contracts with the people that OWN the team .  Sorry ...thats the way life works .   You can go to China and everybody works for the Goverment .  Frankly I don't want that myself

I don't believe their is any stock issued in the NBA ?

If thats so then the owners OWN and or operate the team ,  they players WORK for the franchise and have signed working contract .  How is that different from me working at McDonalds ? If they are unhappy with NBA ....go work at Walmart or your local Chevy Dealership   see how those owners feel.  athey can send you tomworkmat another dealership anytime , if you don't like it leave .

This a Lebron James racist tactic ...only he could see this as slavery ...the act of making millionaires out of people who had nothing to start with..? Obviously he is jealous and he hates that most owners are white , whelp thats life ....dude ...buy your own team ,  or find something real to do with you time and money .  Most McDonald sare probably owned by white OWNERs as well.

It’s also worth asking who bothered to read the article. Silver isn’t banning the word owner. The NBA has already been calling them Governors for years now, and amazingly it hasn’t impacted anything.

Dumb. Just more virtue signaling.

I hate that term. It's a way of dismissing someone else's point of view as disingenuous without any kind of supporting evidence. Pretty sweet way to tell someone you don't think they have the moral threshold to have an actual opinion they believe in.

LOL...Adam Silver has lost his [dang] mind. The morons that he's pandering to with such a statement make me think Silver isn't fit for such a position.

Personally, I think it's a bit over the top. But at the same time, who cares? If people are getting actually offended by it, if it is something that really triggers players or fans, it's a lot easier to change that terminology than it is to change peoples minds. What are you gonna do, campaign on why calling someone an 'owner' is a good thing?

You keep appeasing these clowns and soon they'll be telling you what you can and cannot say.....wait they're already doing that.

A line needs to be drawn, even over something little like this.

When an opinion and/feeling is colossally dumb as in this instance, it deserves to be mocked.

Why are we appeasing crazy people?

Yeah, but the southern states had governors while slavery was going on.

There's a more violent reaction against change then for it on this board but I don't think it's that big of a deal. It does sound awkward when someone on TV starts talking about a player's owner. I've had to explain it a number of times to non-basketball fans. Things change.

I believe the term is "Lead Executive" but not 100% sure. I just heard it from a conference in reference to an owner of a company that was speaking.

Stupid.

They own the team, not the players.

Right on.

The term should be reserved for the fans.  We pay for the tickets and our hearts own the team.
