Lol this is all jealousy, you can't convince me the same people downplaying Philly's team wouldn't be the same ones declaring it a champ if it was our team. They stacked that team. I hope it fails miserably but on paper that is a really good team.

I'm not even counting us out and we have average bigs, young guys and Hayward trying to get their groove back!

It’s obviously a good team, but did they improve from last year? I don’t think so.

Link

They'll be seeing a lot of zones

If they can figure out how to close games, I think they are improved.  Their biggest problem last season was the huge drop off when Embiid went to the bench which they've addressed by adding Horford and O'Quinn.  Their defense should be significantly improved.  Richardson appears to be a better defender than Butler and there won't be any more exploiting Redick's defensive deficiencies.  Losing Redick's shooting definitely hurts but Harris, Horford and Richardson are better 3pt shooters than Butler.  Teams are going to have real difficulty dealing with their size.  Putting aside the difficuly of defending Embiid.  Is Kemba, Kyrie, Hill, etc going to defend Richardson?  Yikes!!

The best thing they can do to improve their playoff chances is practice better load management with Embiid.  It was nuts that they only had him sit out 4 of their 1st 58 games.  With Horford and O'Quinn, there is no excuse for being that stupid again.
Weren’t you the other day asking if Richardson was good at defence at all? Now you’re proclaiming he’s better than Butler??

Truer words couldn’t be spoken. His comment of he’s probably better on D than Redick immediately made me realize his overall knowledge of the league is very limited, so his pro-Sixers agenda should be taken with brinks truck full of salt.
Richardson is obviously better than Redick.   ;)

Butler's defense was not as good as advertised at times last season.  Whether that was because of age, disinterest, I don't know.  As for Richardson, I'm going by what I've read, heard and watched since the trade.  He appears to be a very good defender.  I probably should have said he appears to be on par with Butler.

  • GOT IT!!!
Imagine if they had of kept Jimmy Butler instead of Ben Simmons. That team would have been incredible. Everyone could shoot.

I still see Simmons' lack of half court offense as a major liability for this team. I'd love to see them trade him and see what team they could build without him. I'm sure it'd be an improvement.

I don’t think they trust Embiid’s health enough to trade Simmons for a better floor spacer.

Well, I, along with others, are merely pointing out how you did a complete 180 in about 24 hours on Richardson. After all, this was your comment just yesterday-

How good on D is Richardson?  I assume he's better than Redick.

Josh Richardson is quicker and more adept at defending quick guards than Jimmy Butler is. Jimmy is bigger and far better at defending larger more physical wings than Richardson is.

Richardson fills the defensive void in the backcourt. It is his job to defend guys like Westbrook and Bradley Beal and he does that better than Jimmy Butler did.

Ben Simmons has to step up and replace the void left behind by Jimmy Butler in terms of defending big wing players like Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. Simmons should be a credible enough defender on those players to help Philly improve it's perimeter D next year.
Ben Simmons is a top notch defender already.  He was definitely better overall defensively than Butler last season.  If I recall correctly, they tried Butler on Leonard in the 1st game but then switched to having Simmons predominantly guard Leonard.

Amazing how so many think Sixers are team to beat. Who on Earth will hit big shots game after game in the playoffs? Harris got 180m and he is so far from super max worthy out of pure desperation. They lost there best player who was a huge factor in them almost beating the team that won the finals. Josh Richardson and Harris are better then Butler in what alternate universe? Definitely not ours. I would take Giannis 100 times out of 100 vs anyone on  that Sixers team. Guess what, I would also rather have Kemba and even a committed, p---ed off Kyrie hitting shots at the end of games then anyone now on that Sixers team. Right it down now, Sixers will not make the finals if they come up against the Bucks to get there..Guaranteed.

If we lost our best player who was Butler and then gave a supermax to someone not worthy of it(think someone like Antoine Walker), we would want Danny’s head in the guillotine. Off with his head...

Yes, Sixers made best of a crappy situation but they are not better then before and therefore will not beat teams like the Bucks. No Butler and no close replacement means no finals and no Lebron to face.

In the end, right now it is the Bucks probably celebrating. Giannis is only getting better and we have yet to see his best year.

If Kawhi is back, I'd pick Raptors.  He was barely healthy this time...imagine him healthy.  Also, the Raptors will have a more experienced Anunoby back from his appendix surgery...He's a good young player.

If Kawhi goes to Clippers, I'll predict them for the title.  Perfect balance...similar to Raptors in that sense.

Harris wasn't eligible for the supermax. And he actually signed for less than the max he was eligible for.

I didn't do a complete 180 on Richardson.  I said didn't know much about him but no one on here responded with any info on him.  So I've found out some about him in the last 48 hours.  It doesn't take long to watch some video, listen to some podcasts and read some articles.  Like I said I should have said on par but I found the reality of Butler's defense to be somewhat underwhelming versus the hype last season.

I know, but 180m for 5 years is super max to me! 😝

I also agree If Kawhi stays, they are top 2 as well. But he is going gold in spite of that management.

Imagine Embiid healthy and with a good backup.  If I recall correctly in game 7, the Sixers were +10 in the 45 minutes Embiid was on the court and -12 in the 3 minutes Embiid was off the court.  That was a microcosm of the series.

I haven't said the Sixers are the team to beat.  I think the crunch time scoring is their most significant issue.  Losing Redick hurts but I think they have enough shooting.  It will be interest to see how their offense changes since Embiid/Redick DHOs were significant component.  I don't think the Horford playing 4 is an issue.  Maybe it will be at the end of the contract.

I do find it funny how the Sixers get no respect for almost beating the Raptors in game 7 but the Bucks do when the Raptors handled them easily in 6.  I think the Sixers would have smoked the Bucks.  Unlike the Raptors or us last season the Bucks had no one to guard Embiid.

Yeah, that’s a pretty significant reach. Big Richardson fan, but he’s not a better defender than 4x second team All-Defender Butler.

He listened to a podcast though potter
