Knicks are going to be left with somewhere between $13-15M in cap space after signing Wayne Ellington.

That's no longer enough to absorb Goran Dragic's contract from the Heat to help facilitate the Miami/Philadelphia trade.

If that butler trade falls through does that affect Al's contract agreement with Philly?

Depends if Philly would try to sign Butler or just renounce him.  Presumably they’d renounce and sign Al.

Then they don't get Josh Richardson, who is probably going to be an important piece for them in a championship run.

If the trade falls through, they’re not getting Richardson in either case, so I’m not sure how that matters.

At a certain point last night Philly was in danger of losing Butler, Harris and Reddick while the C’s were looking assured to recover a bit by getting Walker, resigning or S&T Horford, possibly resigning Morris (or S&T) and getting the full MLE.  This morning’s news has C’s back in the room exception and renouncing Morris while losing Horford for nothing. Philly signs Harris and Horford and S&Ts Butler for a nice piece in Richardson.  What a complete and disappointing turnaround.

The only remaining salvage from last night is that it seems Kawhi is still in play for the Clips though I am fully expecting that to turn the wrong way at some point today.

Kawhi for sure going to Lakers. Time to accept it. Just hate how the Lakers get everyone and their front office is a complete joke. Their fans don't even deserve it. Now I'm gonna have to put up with Lakers fans crap everyday here and their "3peat", "multiple championships", "better than boston" garbage.

Maybe he still goes to Minnesota after all...

If I'm Marcus Smart, I'm texting Robert Williams every day.

"You see that. Fans think we don't have a big."

"Another hot take that an OKC thunder backup would be better than you."

"I wonder how many times Al will get a hookshot up over you this season when we play Philly. I'm setting the over-under at 7."

"Maybe we should go get Frank Kaminsky. You think he could start for us?"

"Remember that time you missed your defensive rotation and got pulled?"

"How many rebounds do you think a guy like Jared Dudley could get for us at center?"

"Lottery-team Phoenix Suns didn't want him, but Bender might be our best option."

I gotchya. My point was they probably want to work a way where they get Richardson too.

He wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Wiggins + another rotation player? They just need bodies at this point.

I'm just dreaming of Draymond flipping out with Wiggins' lack of effort on defence and dumb shots

All these two year deals for the Knicks.

They really think they can someone stop being a tire fire and get Giannis in two years?  :P

They won’t build a culture and will just keep banking on luck.

They’ll trade him for Draymond’s replacement IMO. I don’t see them paying Draymond big money.

Given we have a hole at C this year, would anyone entertain joining in the Butler trade in order to bring Olynyk back to Boston?

Crazy set of sign and trades again... but I think it'd be of benefit to us. Olynyk is a poor man's Horford on offense, and wouldn't be a huge impediment to Williams growth.

I don't think Olynyk is quite right for the team but he is much better than what we have and I would be happy to have him here.

I talked about this on some other thread, but can’t find the post to quote myself.  Based on my reading of Twitter, the Mavs want Olynyk and not Dragic, and the Heat want to trade Dragic, which is why the trade broke down.  So dangercart’s solution doesn’t really work if that’s true.  In my missing post I hypothesized what it would look like if we took James Johnson, who Miami would also like to move, or Olynyk if the Mavs use their cap space elsewhere and we’re the best Miami and Philly can do at that point.

In my opinion, Kelly O is not the guy--he's bad at defense, rebounding, and setting screens. Those are basically all of our needs for bigs.
