  • GOT IT!!!
Per Woj:

Five-time All-Star F/C Al Horford has agreed to a four-year, $109M deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, agent Jason Glushon tells ESPN.

Well F...  Looks like Danny didn’t want to pay that much for him. Can’t really blame him.

That’s a pretty awkward fit, if you ask me. Simmons, Richardson, Harris, Al, and Embiid is big but not too much shooting, and Al simply isn’t going to be able to guard fours out on the perimeter full-time anymore.

Who's going to guard Al and Embiid though? That's almost as good as a Big Al and AD frontcourt.

They will get killed by a small ball lineup. Al is just not that quick to play at the 4 anymore and Embiid is  too slow to defend the pnr.

While the C's get destroyed in the paint? C's getting a serviceable big is more than important now. I was hoping Al would go anywhere but Philly.

Per Woj,

The Horford contract has $97M guaranteed and $12M in bonuses tied to championships, league sources tell ESPN.

I'm assuming bonuses tied to championships would be deemed unlikely.

Introducing starting Boston center Daniel Theis!

Mike

I'd say Kevon Looney if I were to guess right now.

So have our chances for Capella or Adams gone down the drain?

So are the Sixers going to have like 4 max (or near max) contracts starting in 2020? I am not sure how that is going to work out. I guess all but Harris will be on the lower end, though.

Sixers seem to be going all in. Losing Butler and Redick, but gaining Al and Richardson - honestly seems like a slight downgrade, but the mix might be better.

Love Al, but that's a bit of a slap in the face.
It works because Harris is at 30%Max and Embiid, Horford and Simmons after next season will only be at 25% Max each.  They should be under the tax this season with Simmons still on his rookie contract and Horford's contract will be up before they have to worry about repeater tax.

Embiid
Horford
Harris
Richardson
Simmons

Pretty good team.
true, true. they do have a weakness in the backcourt, relatively speaking. not sure of their perimeter defense either. is that team with Al and Richardson better than butler and redick? hard to say.

but all in all they will be a tough team to beat.

Well who do we pivot to now?

Hopefully we can still get one of Brooklyn or Philly to play ball and do the sign and trade to get us the full MLE.

But I’m excited to throw some big minutes at Timelord and see what he’s got.

Yeah, they’re big, but they’re going to get killed by small lineups. Al simply is not a full-time four. You could see that he was starting to slip in speed and lateral movement this year, and that was him primarily at the five. What’s more, at the five his three point shot was the key, but it’s average or less than average as a full-time four in today’s NBA, especially with his dip in shooting last year.

The fit is just really, really suspect to me. And that’s going to be a lot of money for Al in a few years.

I’m really bummed by him leaving but this is how I see it too. I don’t really see how those two play major minutes together

Guess all the chatter of Kyrie being in Durants ear was legit. Now I actually believe he quit on us. Dead to me forever. Probably texting KD after games saying Brooklyn time.

Durant is worth the gamble but what if he never returns to full strength? Big gamble with big rewards but also could be a crippling deal. He needs 3 years of finals visits to make 168m worthwhile gamble..that is a contract for 56m an active season. Wall deal looked great too when it happened.

I think for the short term you try to get maybe Robin Lopez and then find if out if Yabu and Time Lord are going to be able to help moving forward.  You probably take more of a long term approach.

Then make a decision in January whether to stick with youth, look into the buyout market if the team looks like it can do anything in the playoffs - or try to improve the front line next summer.

I would seriously consider moving Smart for someone who can shoot because your chance against Philly & Milwaukee is to spread them out and hit 3's.  I'm not sure Smart is a great fit with they way the primary competition is going.

That John Wall deal never looked great.

Yeah, if anything I think better load management of both Embiid and Al and being able to play Al at the 5 when Embiid sits are the best parts of this signing.

For the first time in his career it’s likely that Al won’t be out on the court late in games against most teams. They’re going to find out quick that he simply can’t guard the four full-time in today’s NBA.
