don't lean either way about Grant Williams or the second rounders and have zero expectations for them, but langford is a swing for the fences type pick at #14

dunno why a lot of reactions to that pick are negative... if he busts, not a big deal... he was extremely hyped coming  out of HS, we'll see if an injury really did affect his percentages... and I read that apparently he didn't work out for any teams because of thumb surgery (??)??

after years of criticism for taking those with safe mediocre ceiling projections instead of high risk high reward, why not Romeo  :P

and also he's finally away from Indiana without the crazy expectations, think his family members are Louisville fans as well

The problem is there were other lower risk high reward players available

Goga is gonna be a better player than Langford. I will be shocked if it doesnt happen. Absolutely shocked. Only rhing against Goga right now is he is on a team with a big frontcourt rotation already with sabonis and turner

The Romeo pick only makes sense if Ainge also drafted Juliet.

Celts have Brown and Hayward, so where will Langford get the minutes from?

And Langford's no PG.

Langford is an Indiana kid.  I am trusting Stevens on this one, who probably knows every basketball mind in Indiana.  And Stevens spoke very highly of him.

Stevens lets his heart strings over rule his brain.

I don't get this thinking... Nba rosters have 17 spots. You will have redundancies. He will come off the bench

Why draft for the bench when you could have drafted for starters?

I think letting a coach have a vote in the drafting process and roster composition is an absolute no-go. You need authority, responsibility and accountability within an organization. You can't mix them up or you'll create a mess.

There’s no doubt Langford is special. I remember him being 5th best high school prospect preseason (4 was Bol, so really 4). On top of it, instead of hanging it up like every other blue chip would do after injury, he played through it and scored 16ppg with a shooting hand injury. His main hole is 3pt shooting. He shot 27% at a college 3 with college defenses (that is garbage). If he can get into the high 30s, he will be nuts. Put this man on the Jaylen Brown workout regimen.

If there is no doubt he is special why was he the 14th pick?

I think he explained it if you had taken time to read his post.    Read, this real slow  : He slid because of his shooting which was caused by a thumb injury.

I like Goga a lot, but had Langford sat out after being injured he’s probably a top 5 pick, like Garland.

I wanted:
14th: Samanic
20th: Was hoping we kept Thybulle once drafted
22nd: Kabengele or Fernando

Once we made the trade with Philly, I wanted:
24th:  Fernando
33rd: Kabengele

When Fernando was available at 33, I thought there was no way we don't take him, but then another 6 foot PG was taken. I wanted Tacko Fall at 51 but then another 6 foot PG was taken. Very glad we signed him to an Exibit 10 for Summer League and hopefully beyond...

My draft as it played out therefore would have been: Samanic, Kabengele, Fernando and Tacko Fall. I loved the idea of a crew of young bigs (Robert Williams, Kabengele, Bruno Fernando and Tacko Fall developing alongside our future 2/3/4 rotation of Brown, Tatum and Samanic. I figured we could either resign Rozier or just used our mid level on a good vet point guard this year and focus on our future PG in next year's PG heavy draft...

So basically it blew for me. But Ainge and Stevens are pretty great basketball minds - hoping they use all or most of our cap on either Cousins or Vujecic, OR, are trading for Adams or Capela.

I think this draft will be like the 2004 draft in that we will end up with 3 rotation players.

Hope so; that was a great draft for us, given where we picked. Too bad Delonte had his issues, could have been much more.
