Danny should have traded the malcontent...owell.

I absolutely hate the anti-Kyrie sentiment going on with Cs fans right now, but I will totally agree with this. Danny probably had no idea that Boston fans were going to be chasing their young perennial All-Star out of town.

Trading him would have allowed the Cs to push forward with some meaningful assets rather than lose him for nothing. Heck, if we did it last off-season, we could be in the Finals right now with AD and Kawhi (AD because Rose Rule wouldn't apply and SAS' idea of Kyrie for Kawhi last off-season).

I would have been happy with a Russell for Kyrie swap at the deadline...maybe Kyrie for Porzingis. Now it's re-sign Rozier for 8 figures annually - Sweet!

Should have traded the malcontent named Terry Rozier...

Fans know he's leaving, so it's natural that there's anti-Kyrie sentiment. Fans have nothing to do with the Kyrie problem. And he thinks it's bad here, NY fans will turn on him in a second if things don't go well.

I would welcome him back, but look at reality: a lot of what went wrong with last year was him. Jeff Goodman said players told him that he was difficult to play with, and terrible in the locker room.

That's not fans. Fans saw the horrible product on the floor. They aren't going to be overly positive with any player given last season's collapse, and then throw in Kyrie's I'm staying-I'm leaving gambit, and it's no surprise many Celtics fans hate him.

And there was no way Ainge was going to trade him. He held out hope the whole time that things would come together.

https://www.bostonherald.com/2019/06/13/is-kyrie-irving-already-gone-sources-say-hes-preparing-to-join-the-nets/

Quote
According to a source with ties to Roc Nation, the organization expected to become Irving’s new representative, the All-Star point guard is prepared to sign with the Brooklyn Nets when he becomes a free agent next month. A separate league source told the Herald that his team (not the Celtics) has received the same information and is operating under the belief that Irving wants to join the Nets.

Word is that the Celtics, meanwhile, had not been given any definitive indication from Irving as of Thursday afternoon.

To be fair to the situation, any story involving Irving needs to contain a disclaimer. While the two sources cited in the second paragraph are to be trusted, most anything involving Irving should be seen as a fluid matter. Nothing can be truly settled until a contract is signed, and that cannot take place until the NBA moratorium ends on July 6 at noon Eastern Time. And, as Celtic followers have come to know, Irving remains eminently capable of changing his mind.

Well the rumblings seem to be getting louder about Kyrie to Nets.  I guess it is impossible to know for sure, but this sounds bad.

I was hoping last summer that we use Irving’s contract to get rid of Hayward. Maybe even trade both to San Antonio for kawhi green and Gasol. Then scoop Davis and or butler. I know it sounds like revisionist history.
Somehow when Danny traded for Kyrie and signed Hayward he completely forgot about the concept of being flexible with his assets and being ready to strike for a star.

It's really weird to me that anybody thinks that the reason Kyrie is leaving the Celtics is because he read what fans were saying about him online or anything like that.

As fans we severely overrate our ability to affect anything that happens in terms of how these players or teams manage their business.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

I got this from nets daily:

“...
I love me kyrie but if he had a change of heart

And that meant us keeping dlo… Then I’d still be extremely happy plus the fact that we can address a position of need

I know as if 2016 Kyrie’s family did not want him playing back home in NY

I dont know if I am

in the minority but I think a pairing of DLo And Kyrie is terrible. Sign Kyrie let DLo go and go after in order Khawi leonard (most likely not going to happen) Kevin Durant ( I still have hope) or the Jimmy Butler or Tobias Harris option

somehow nets fans are giving Kyrie the respect he deserves ???

What did Danny do? What's this backstabbing move for? At least tell Danny so the team can move on

If he really does this without telling Danny, its pure low class

So basically, Bullpett is saying Kyrie could walk and AD could be a one-year rental.  Thanks a lot.  :(

Right...and of course Kyrie is still 'considering' the Cs, what if only crappy teams offer him a max deal?

I think the point on Davis is more solid in that the Cs will clearly trade for AD with/without Kyrie, which is fine by me but they need to keep Smart if that is the case.
