Was expecting them to make the playoffs before this trade anyway, but Not a huge fan of Barnes

This deal makes a lot of sense. SAC really didn't give up anything other than the opportunity cost of using their cap space to take on a bad contract. For example, maybe if they don't do this they are the ones receiving the first from HOU in exchange for absorbing Knight and Chriss. But what difference does a first in the 20's really make in a draft that is considered bad? Not much. Instead they use the cap space to take on a solid SF who will help them make a play off push (for the first time in a long time). if he opts in then great, you have him another year and they weren't doing better with their cap space anyway. Or maybe they can work out a long term deal. If he leaves  then they are no worse ff than they were. Good deal for them.

For Dallas, alos really don't lose much. Weren't making the playooffs this year anyway, and they have bigger cap space ambitions. Although to be honest I'm not sure for who.

Irving-BOS/NYK
Durant- GSW/NYK
Kawhi TOR/LAC
Klay- Likely GSW/Maybe LAL
Walker- Likely CHA/Maybe NYK
Butler and Harris- PHI seems commited to keeping them

And a 19 year old Doncic and KP off an ACL tear might no be the draw they think it is. But again, there's really no harm in taking a swing.

Lol... I was literally just saying this was a possibility in a quick podcast segment i was recording with bdm860

Ha first thing I thought of.  "LarBrd just brought that up."

Just gotta hope these trades mess up the Kings chemistry.

Trading away 2 low usage guys in Shumpert (15.2%) and Jackson (13.0%) for 2 higher usage guys in Barnes (23.5%, but was 25%+ before Luka) and Burks (20.1% this year, 22.4% for career), could mess up the flow.

Kings offense was apparently working with Hield and Fox at 24%-25%, and Bogdanovic and Bagley off the bench at 23%-24%.  Haven't watched much of any of these players/teams this year to really know how well they'll fit though, or what the Kings needed help with.

So hoping for a blow to chemistry and Joerger to struggle to integrate the new players.

Keep hope alive!

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

With the Kings making good moves, I'm being to think I've slipped into an alternate reality.

Barnes has a 25M player option so the Mavs eliminate the risk of him picking up the option.  Not likely but there's always the risk of injury.  I don't see what top free agent the Mavs would get either but the 2020 free agent class is weak.

Really hope making the playoffs seems worth it to them when they're pounded in to dust by the Warriors in the 1st round. That's what you get for messing up our pick.

This trade deadline has been miserable for the Celtics assets.
