Below average defense or not, it would be nice to have a center who could get you an efficient 27 and 12 with some blocks.  He's in shape nowadays and he's still only 23 years old.

He's always been able to put up points. It's his awful defence that sucks.

defense is mostly mental , you gotta want to stop the other guy .

he was lazy more than anything

He looked like a fat slug toward the end of his Philly time.

Effort is needed, but I think he’s also just slow.

I am glad to see him making the best of this opportunity after being left for dead. Hey maybe this time next year he can demand a trade.

Its only 5 games so far, so small sample.

He had to wash out and sign a league minimum two-year deal before he got his body in shape to the point where he could move well enough to be a playable NBA center. He's just visibly in such better shape.

I don't think you can say anyone missed on him, rather just credit the kid for finally putting it together to give his talent a chance to shine. Some guys have to bounce around before they get to the point where they maximize what they have.

Luckily for him, he's also remained relatively healthy. I found Jared Sullinger maddening at times because he would put together some great NBA stretches and end up injured right before the playoffs.

Sullinger never reached his ideal playing weight where his body could handle the strain that his mass put on it, it's possible that Okafor has.

I have always been a big detractor from him but his net rating has taken a turn for the better as well the past 2 months(positive 6 in Dec and about 1 in January). He appears to be progressing. Good for him. He must be doing some hard work off the court which is translating into better results on the court. He will get more then a chance to prove himself in the starting role though if Davis is gifted to the Lakers before the deadline.

27/12/2 tonight

Did ainge virtually every GM drop the ball ? This guy is killing it
maybe. but one stretch of good basketball does not a star make. let's wait and see. and, as mentioned above, he defense and effort were incredibly bad. have these changed? i hope for him they have.

also, he only plays close to the basket. he plays a form of nba basketball that is no longer in vogue in the nba.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I don't really want him, but I hope he succeeds.  I think he got screwed over a fair amount in Philly (and he didn't help himself obviously).  As a former 'wild-ish' young man who definitely didn't consistently make great decisions and created a lot of messes to clean up, but has matured and somewhat become a non-liability, I like to see young people who've made a mistake but aren't bad people, get another chance.

Jahlil and especially Trae Young come to mind as young guys I'm rooting for, tho admittedly Trae is a different case as I feel bad for him that his GM's obvious, obvious bad decision will cause him to be linked to Doncic for his whole career through no fault of his own.  I saw him asked about it and he seemed pretty visibly nervous, dancing all around the question and looking a bit restrained, even overwhelmed.  I'd like to see him develop into a good enough player where we can accept he's not Doncic but not always mention Doncic when Trae's name comes up.
