the only guys I compare smart to don't play in this era, and that's dennis rodman, rick fox and bruce bowen.
it's nice to see other Celtics fans finally realize what smart brings to the table. if you guys would stop getting caught up in the numbers that make you over rate guys like Olynyk, IT and Avery Bradley you would have seen this earlier.
smart likely will never avg. 20 pts a gm, never avg. 10 rebs., might even never be the top vote getter for all defense. going by just that I can see how numbers have clouded peoples judgement. smart's a guy you need to actually watch to see his impact.
the real problem with people's opinion of smart has nothing to with him actually, it's more to do with where he was drafted. if he was the 19th pick in the 1st rnd. everyone would view him as a steal, instead he was the 6th pick and everyone will consider him a bust because he's not an all star.
like bruce bowen, rick fox and dennis rodman, smart can impact the game without scoring a single pt., hell he might not record a steal or a reb. and still impact the game. a lot of what smart does leads to another player getting the credit for a steal, a reb., an assist, etc. he's actually the ultimate "hockey assist" guy.
so really the only numbers we need to look at when it comes to smart a the wins and losses.
