We got some bad press among players for the IT trade. Suspending Marcus would just play into the narrative that the Celts are cutthroat and not player friendly. expect professional behavior from their players.

Yes, he is hurting the team by his actions. They could have used him last night against GS. Can't allow your players to go around acting like overgrown children when they get angry.
so, smart being absent hurts the team. and you seem to be supporting suspending smart which will make him miss more games.....?  ???

The thinking is to suspend him for the games that he misses with injury, so that he does not get paid for those games, not to suspend him for games he would be able to play in after he has healed.

The Golden st game shows how much we need Smart to beat the Warriors. His elite defense would have slowed Curry down some. You don't want to punish a guy that you want to resign.
That assumes the Celtics want to resign him. Sure, if you can have him for $5 million a year, you resign him. But does this team really want back a guy that has prove ge can't shoot for $12-15 million a year. Probably not.

Stevens said that the team would handle Smart's situation internally. My guess is when there is punishment, we will never hear about it or what said punishment was. Can't think that his year on offense plus this event helps his desire for the team to spend lots of money on him.

He helps us win big games. He has the intangibles . I'm not sure what that is worth a year. But if the Cs can afford it, I think they should pay it.

Some sort of suspension/fine is in order.

His reckless off-the-court actions are causing him to miss games. Should he get paid for every one of those? I don’t think so.

If he misses 8 games, I’d suspend him for half of them. May be a little harsh, but he gets paid to play basketball, and he’s not doing that to no fault of the Celtics.

He already expressed self-reflection
You still will need some kind of punish action to show to the others, but no need to be a big one
it should be something everybody can accept
I say a fine is propitiate

They should discipline him with a 3-hour long video of him shooting. It would function as a 2-fold solution:
- He will see his shooting technique mistakes.
- He will be frightened by his shooting as a part of a discipline measure.

Joking aside, I think he should be penalized for this immaturity and self-inflicted absence by sitting out 1 game without pay.
In the end, for Marcus, the true punishment could be low offers he will receive for his new deal.

Sit him down with a psych.

I'm curious to know the circumstances. Was he mucking around? Or is he going through some sort of emotional turmoil. I feel like there is hell of a lot more to this story..

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Steve Bullpit reporting the injury was due to him swiping at a picture frame due to him not appreciating some pictures of a random female he saw on social media.
I'd guess a new boo with his boo.

According to NESN, Smart punched the picture because of the photos his baby mama posted on line.

I think the injury and the resulting missed games are punishment enough.
