Great gambit by Brad-a new wrinkle and reinforces the stay ready mantra and builds Theis's confidence.Using Semmi with his lateral and strength, keeping Giannis from exploiting in the paint and staying with Marcus for his clutch gene..And allowing the kids to have bad first half and work their way out of poor shooting by playing good defense.Marcus back a Marcus coming and a well earned road win as  Kyrie and Horford takeover from the kids
.GREAT COACHING by BRAD-

Agree on all points! After shooting so poorly in the first half it was good to see Jaylen not afraid to take the big 3 at the time when he did.

It seems that Brad is going to match up Baynes with the opposing biggest front court player, regardless if it means starting him or playing him of the bench. He was matched up almost minute for minute versus Embiid, Drummond and now Monroe. It pays off because  we avoid being ridiculously smaller/weaker at any times at any position. I also like it because it gives Baynes a special assignment, which simplifies things for our big man. I think it also leads to some frustration arising in those big guys heads because they can't simply out-muscle their opponent and makes them uncomfortable.
And Theis and Horford seem to be the alternative option, being more mobile, better in defending in the pick and roll and on switches. Yesterday Horford had another special assignment in matching up with Giannis, which led to a start by Theis. All in all watching Stevens adjust tactics and rotations is great. I'm so happy that he's our couch, so easy to root for :)

I still think if we get the DPE, we should strive for a big.   We may not use it but we feel thinner up front and deeper in the wing and guards.

Mirotic or Bobby Portis?

Can't forget that we have Marcus Morris coming back though. He brings us to just enough front court depth but it probably wouldn't hurt to have some more.

Portis is a lock to go to LAC.

As for Theis.
Not a chess move, just our reality ATM.

Horford starts,
Baynes is Monroes matchup,
he can't start without playing 40+ mins and he only has fouls for 25 mins,
Morris is still out,
Yabu didn't impress.

Theis is the only big left with some length and switchability, the qualities he sought.

Theis is a smart player.  He is going to be very reliable whenever Brad calls his number.  As for front court depth I don't think the team needs to add anyone with the DPE.  If the right player is available then that's fine but I don't think we actively need to upgrade the front court.  Aside from depth I'm not sure what we would be looking for.  Ultimately our closing lineup will have Horford at the 5 and Tatum/Morris at the 4.  Theis and Baynes are perfectly fine to eat the rest of the minutes.  Semi also seems capable to handling minutes at the 4 against the right lineups.

To be completely honest I don't think I want to see us make any moves this year barring another major injury.  A blockbuster trade is the only other exception.  This seems like a great group of players that could develop some serious chemistry this season.

Theis still looked lost a couple of times when he had to rotate over to the strong side to stop the penetration. It's going to take time to beat the euro zone out of him.

True, but he also displayed an ability to block shots and rebound in traffic, which we have lacked the last couple of seasons.

He's very good at boxing out, too.  But that's true for a lot of players that come from leagues that value discipline over athleticism.

I hope that he's going to be useful for us, but lack of great talent is still an issue there.

You start Theis over Baynes so you can get Baynes the ball when he is in and make him more of a focal point, running pick and roll to him.  Theis on the other hand can space and just do the dirty work.  He has had some mistakes here and there but he's been solid.
