Guys we couldn't deal for George first and then sign Hayward.  We were always taking more money back in a George deal.  What was Danny supposed to do.

Get a handshake deal done, like happens constantly in the NBA.

Yeah but doesn't sound like we wanted to risk George leaving without another star on board. And perhaps Gordon isn't a lock just yet.

Any such deal would have had to involve trading MORE than just Crowder.  You are all over repeating this line about how Ainge was ONLY offering Crowder and picks.  But it is impossible to sign Hayward if the ONLY one being traded for George is Crowder.

Think this through.

Seems like every time we are in contention for a player, that player gets traded for much less than one would have thought.  Cousins, butler, and George go for packages we could have easily beat.  So either:

1.  Ainge is completely unable to pull the trigger
2.  Teams are asking for too much, but only from us
3.  Teams are taking lesser deals just to spite us
4.  Ainge is trying too hard to fleece teams

2

and his holding the line is generally forcing teams to take less than they should or could get.

He's exposing the actual value of their "assets."

I was hoping Hayward and George would make that handshake. Perhaps Hayward to Boston is far from a done deal.  :(

Tp - Ainge's hands were apparently tied here. Indy just looks like morons.

I've explained this multiple times. There is zero requirement in the CBA that we send out matching salary to Indiana.

or how about

5.  Teams in the east don't want to trade their all-star player to Boston so they can have another super team.

This is likely a factor.
