And the fact that Jaylen is shooting as well or better than Tatum could be taken in two ways.  I see most taking it as Jaylen improving.  And he may well have.  But just as likely, this should temper what this sort of practice really means (which is not much).

The other day my 13 year old made 15 threes in a row and frequently hits over 90% of threes in practice.  So basically, it's cool but nothing spectacular.
A 13 year old hitting 90% of threes is pretty spectacular.

I'm assuming these were from the high school line, but still.

Anyways, practice 3 videos like this are pretty irrelevant, but this is a tough drill at the end of a workout. very very different from being fresh and slowly taking 3s from the hs line.

Best part is, Jaylen Brown looked even better, beating Tatum in a three point contest for the second day in a row. These two are going to be a force together

There is a beast rising in the East.....OUR Boston Celtics!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

It's amazing how NBA players are just automatic when left wide open. Tatum's form looks good but I wouldn't read too much into him making uncontested 3's in practice.

For reference, here's a 42 year old Allen Iverson knocking down shots from all angles. Nobody would've considered him a good NBA three point shooter. Just goes to show that you should take these things with a grain of salt to say the least.

Edit: fast forward to around 50 seconds to see him shooting

Not sure what team you were watching in the playoffs but I saw a ton of wide open 3's being missed by the C's.  We need a shooter who can be automatic hitting open shots.

Extending range on a good jumper is easier than building your shot from ground up. One of the reasons I liked Tatum more than Jackson. He will be a solid 3pt shooter, maybe not Klay Thompson(A man can dream), but I think above average is a reasonable expectation. The only real concern I have with Tatum is his ability to defend wings on the perimeter. It's hard to improve lateral quickness.

TP.  This reminds me of Bradley Beal.  He didn't shoot at a high percentage in college, yet all scouts insisted he would become an elite shooter in the NBA because of his form and and just needed getting repetitions at deeper range.

It's all relative I guess.  My son's been on competitive teams since he was eight.  He's now a rising freshman and is the best player on the summer freshman team with a good chance to make the JV then varsity by the 10th grade.

But his school is firmly average and he's about average when compared to the best of the best kids that are out there (i.e., future D1 players).  So the point is, these skills we see from the pros in practice in an of themselves are not very impressive to me because I see what even the average (competitive) players can do.  And yes, huge difference with what someone can do when warming up versus in-game situations or even after a strenuous practice.

If he hadn't proven it in games -- in his case in one of the most competitive college conferences -- I'd say no big deal. But the reality is that there's plenty of reason to believe he'll eventually learn to be a good shooter from distance in the NBA.

Same goes for Jaylen, but rather than proving it in college, he gave us some reason for optimism in his rookie year.

Tatum looks a solid 1-2" taller than Brown. I bet he measures close to 6'9" in shoes.

HE FIXED THE ISSUE WITH HIS LEFT HAND!

The motion of his left hand (guiding hand on long2's and 3-pointers) would fly out away from the ball. This problem truly effected his shooting mechanics and was a huge reason he shot 34% from 3.

This improvement, especially in such a short time, is incredibly significant. If this is fixed IMO we can be very optimistic that Tatum makes the short list of players that shoot better 3pt% in the NBA than they did in college!

I wonder if some of the amateur coaches in this thread shot over 40% from the three.
