Essentially...

Are you using the 2017 and 2018 BKN picks to get a Butler, George, etc. to add to this core now and going for it all?

Or are you making and keeping those picks in the hopes of landing the next star/superstar?

Of course, neither is guaranteed but reading the landscape of the league (looking at you CLE & GSW )...which way are you going?

Probably keeping the picks at this point.  At least BKN '17.  I think BKN '18 is more movable.

I just think the cost of acquiring a Butler or George would gut this roster too much and would knock them back significantly in the East.

I would keep.

Go after Hayward or Blake.

Trade Crowder (plus one of the Gs not named IT) for a high level big man.

Hybrid.  I want us to get a star and keep the 2017 pick, Smart and Jaylen, then add in Zizic

Yeah, sign Hayward, keep the pick unless a good PF becomes available.

I think Fultz can help us win.

same, I don't think we will win until LeBron slows down, so I rather build for the future and groom our young players that will be ready and go in 5-7 years (assuming LeBron will trend downwards eventually)

The answer to this will be a lot clearer after the lottery.

If 2017 Nets is #1 pick then we go Fultz... anything else and I think its hazy. The only trade I would do that impacts our core would be Crowder and Nets 2018 for Porzingis (if he is available).

George has made his desire to play in LA too obvious and I wouldn't stake a 10-year potential all-star in a Fultz for 2 year rental. Butler simply isn't worth it. I believe Kevin Love becomes available this off-season as Cavs try to stock up on young, developing talent in preparation for post Lebron which is about 2-3 seasons away. I don't think he'll play past 35 with the number of business ventures he has going... and I think he wants to retire on top.

My opinion is that we don't necessarily need another "star"... we definitely need another scorer and we need athletic bigs that can rebound. Scorers such as Gay, Gallinari, Hayward works. Athletic bigs such as Griffin (if healthy), Skal, Porzingis also fills a gap.

agreed.  I think Fultz could make an immediate impact as a rookie.  jackson or tatum would probably follow Brown's development trend which, while not immediate impact, would look quite promising.

I'm not sure who the vet PF/C would be we could get with that pick but it would have to be an all-star at least.

As of right now, the Nets still look to be awful next year (I'm predicting a finish in the worst 8 records) and with a plethora of big man prospects projected to be available next year, I'd hang on to that pick as well unless an all-star becomes available that fits our needs.

Of course neither pick should be used in a trade for anyone that only has 1 year left (even if it's PG).

The premise is not totally accurate.  It's not really about win-now versus win later.  I think in that sense, you always take win now because, I mean, why wait to win?

The real dichotomy is about controlling the risks.  The draft picks might be great; greater than any of the players that we are looking at even.  But they also might not (and this is more likely than people think).  So do we trade these picks for players that we KNOW are good?

That's the real question here.

Agreed, although I am unconvinced about Zizic.

My hope/prediction is that we go for the two of:
Hayward
George
Butler

I would give up these assets for those:
Under the limit capspace
BKN 2018 pick
LAC 2019 pick
BOS 2018 or 19 pick
AB
Kelly

I think that with 2 more allstar wings we would be able to compete with Cleveland and Golden state while still being better set up for the next decade.

We are already winning. Next year all if our players will be better, so why rent Butler or George.
If we could get D Jordan he would help us the most if Clipper rebuild. In 2 years Brown, KO and Smart will be peakiing we will be better but we may lose a guard.   How we spend JJ Zeller and Amir's money is the key 25 mil. I think Danny will be wise. Where we land in the Lottery as stated has questions that cant' be answered yet. Hope for an injury and we are the team and have a future too next year.
