To be fair, DJ had 17 rebounds, 6 of which were offensive. That's pretty big. A lot of players have flaws in their game. What I don't like about the hack-a-strategy (other than it's the most boring thing to watch), is that there's no coaching around it except for taking the guy out.

I do not care to protect the players that cannot make free throws therefore my proposal is not about them, but about the game.

You should not be allowed to foul a player that does not have the ball, that is not a basketball play. The league should think about making non-basketball fouls away from the ball, flagrant fouls (not eligible for ejection or fine) two fouls with ball out of bounds. The league would still keep the flagrant 1 and 2 rules for the hard fouls.

You guys just see Gobert near the end of this Warriors-Jazz game?

Gobert hurting the Jazz at the line.

... Even Smart shot over 80% from the line this season.

Not only that, he was getting to the line a lot compared to his FT attempts - his FTrate (FT attempt per FG attempt) was .334; while fans will be justified in asking for better shooting from the field, he's making up for some of that by getting himself to the line and making them at a grade-A rate.

Getting to the line helps the whole team; getting the opponent into the penalty earlier in a quarter means more FT's for everyone, foul trouble for the opponent, and players who don't risk fouling (so that they play less physical).
