For example.
We pay Al Horford, Gordon Hayward, Isaiah Thomas and Jimmy Butler max contracts.
What then?

Assuming IT is not extended this offseason they are only bringing in one max contract with Gordon Hayward, and he fits under the cap. 

Assuming they trade for Butler, it will be a salary exchange, so no damage there.

Al is already on the books, so no damage there either.

The only issue is then re-signing IT.  They can go over the cap to resign him, with the damage being the luxury tax.
