I don't think we can trade the Brooklyn picks anymore.  We don't have the assets to trade for enough stars to compete with the Warriors.  IMO we should try to draft some young studs with the Brooklyn picks, hope for strong development from some of our young guys and maintain max level cap space.  We could be a top 3 team in the East the next few seasons with Horford, IT, Bradley, Crowder, and our depth.  If we do that and Smart, Brown, and whoever we get next year look promising, in 2 years when Boogie is a free agent we could make the case that we're his best chance to win right away and long term.  All of this happening is unlikely, and we may not be able to build a true contender while Horford is on the team, but to me that's our best hope of getting enough talent on the roster at the same time to compete with the Warriors.  Cashing in all of our assets now for Boogie is pointless; it leaves us well short of Golden State with no avenues for improvement.

Imagine if we have Okafor or Nerlene or both right now instead of Jaylen Brown.  Just...horrible.

(1) We don't know how much we would've needed to give up to acquire Okafor or a 1-yr rental like Noel
(2) Can we at least see how Brown performs before we definitively slam the draft pick?

No. Stay on course. This superteam gimmick will lose its steam soon enough. They have no rim protection and no guarantee that Iggy or the rest of the stars will stay healthy.

Are you sure you're on the right forum? Is there another team you're supposed to be rooting for? Did you give yourself a Celtics sig by accident?

Brown had some trouble going to the basket tonite against Holmes and Woods, a couple of bigs who looked pretty good. Wish the Celtics had them. He is going to find the NBA paint a lot tougher to drive into than college. He will have to show an outside shot to round out his game.

So far, Ainge's highlight has been signing Horford. I don't see anything else yet. Too early to judge Brown.

Ainge needs to get that big to go with Horford. He doesn't have him yet.

Personally, I think Boogie would be our best hope of making a title run. Him and Horford together would be pretty amazing, I think

Before the trade deadline it would have cost multiple Brooklyn picks to get someone like Cousins, plus talented guys on our roster. Now that the Brooklyn picks seem to be gaining value I think we could lose just one for Cousins and not give up as much talent.

Next summer we will need to decide if you are going for the youth movement or rolling with guys like Bradley and Isaiah. If we trade for Cousins then that decision is made early.

If we could go get Cousins for a package of Amir, Rozier, Young, KO, BRK pick + a few other non lotto picks then I think we should absolutely go for it. We'd blow all our money in the summer of 2018 but we'd be contenders for the present whilst still being able to build around two guys picked using the Brooklyn picks, with a potential high lotto pick still to come from Memphis.

Personally I don't feel the rush to compete now at the expense of the long term potential of the team so I wouldn't be cashing in guys like Bradley, Crowder, Smart for short term upgrades. Some people differ in that view. However with Cousins you have a team who are in desperate need of a complete rebuild, something we can offer better than anyone else. I'd take back a bad contract from them to make it work, probably Belinelli but if they wanted to ship out Gay I could understand. Perhaps that would mean getting a 3rd team involved.

I still expect a Cousins trade to happen, I thought all year long it would be at the draft but Sac obviously had little interest. Now that they have missed out in FA perhaps they are coming round to the idea of getting value while they can. For roster space reasons I would like it to happen before the start of the year but we'll see

There's a rumor that Cleveland would like to trade Love and Shumpert in a package to acquire Cousins and Mclemore.

Just a rumor, the writer admits the cap salaries don't even work right now, a 3rd team would have to be involved.

Not even a rumor, just speculation to fill content space during a lull.
