Smart was pumped up to be the leader of the Celtics, the heir to rondo right off the bat as if we didn't even need rondo cuz we have smart. When in reality the guy picked up the ball when faced with any pressure , and took terrible hero shots and the announcers just stay quiet. No criticism.

Marcus Smart + #3 for Butler sounds better

If I was them, I'd want Crowder, Rozier, #3 and one of the other two BRK picks.
Knowing DA would say no, I'd take Crowder, Rozier, #3 and #16

If Crowder is the sticking point, I'd look towards Smart, Mickey #3 and #16

If were keeping all our core players, you'd at least need Rozier, Mickey, #3 and the 2018 BRK pick.

I think they should be able to get him for less.

The #3, the #23 and C's first rounder next year. I would rather do that than give up Bradley.

The celtics first rounder next year will essentially be a top 8 pick for sure in a loaded draft as we are swapping with Brooklyn. I'm keeping that pick.

There is absolutely no certainty on that.

The Nets dropped from a 38 win team (in 2014/15) to a 21 win team (in 2015/16) when the highest profile players they lost were a Mason Plumlee and the fizzled out versions of Deron Williams & Andrew Kirilenko.  That was enough to see them drop 17 games and fall from a fringe playoff team to the 3rd worst team in the entire NBA.

With the significant cap space they have this year, it's not at all unrealistic to believe that they could be a fringe playoff team again as soon as next season.  It probably won't happen, but it's very possible.

People are overrating the "certainty" of those next two Brooklyn picks being valuable.  They both have the potential to fall outside the top 10 if the dominoes don't fall our way.  The Nets are basically a solid starting Point Guard and a half decent shooter away from being a surprisingly competitive team.
almost every team has a bunch of cash to spend eslecially with the rising salary cap. Anyone good thats not completely psychotic will avoid the nets like a plague and sign elsewhere.

True.

Also completely irrelevant because we aren't talking about every team, we're talking about the Nets, specifically.

Year after year we constantly learn the same lesson about free agency - there is absolutely no telling where guys are going to go, which guys are going to star or leave, etc.

How did Brooklyn even get to becoming a playoff team to begin with a couple of years back?  By getting Deron Williams (a big star, at the time) to come over in free agency.

When Dwight went to the Lakers, he was pushing to go to the Nets as one of his top choices.

Brook Lopez and Thad Young had a chance to run in free agency, but signed extensions in Brooklyn.

Hell Brooklyn has probably had more free agent success in the past 5-6 years then we have.

You can't just count them out and move forward on the assumption that those 17 and 18 picks are going to be top 8.  They have as much opportunity to improve their roster as any other team in the league has.  I certainly HOPE that they remain utterly garbage for the next 3  years, but if I am Danny Ainge I'm not going to bank on that as a part of my future plan. I'd expect them (worst case) to fall in the 10-15 range, and anything better I would consider a great bonus.

Not to "well, actually" you, but the Nets didn't sign Deron Williams in free agency, they traded for him, and he only agreed to reup with the them because they traded fo Joe Johnson. Both of those trades in retrospect were bad trades.
