http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2635344-tyronn-lue-likens-lebron-james-to-shaquille-oneal-when-discussing-foul-calls

Here's a fun little read. Lue and James are complaining that James isn't getting all of the calls that he should be getting, because he's so big and physical. They likened him to Shaq with not getting calls.

I especially loved this little quote from Lebron:

"Cleveland contacted the NBA about Drummond's foul, but the Association didn't hit Drummond with any further discipline.

'Initially I was surprised,' said James of the NBA's decision, per McMenamin. 'But then I thought who he did it to, and I wasn't surprised.'"

Wow. How out of touch can these people really be? Does he not know that he's probably the most coddled player by the refs in the NBA? Perhaps this is just an attempt to get some more calls in later rounds, especially knowing that they'll be facing a physical defensive team either way in the second round, but still, I wonder if when he made that quote he was having to fight back a smile. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Bill Simmons had a similar reaction to these quotes when he tweeted: "I love when LeBron complains about foul calls. This season he finished 18th in minutes and 145th in personal fouls."

I love how Cleveland fans think the NBA is out to the get them. I understand if fans of the Hawks, Wolves, Suns, Magic, etc. are complaining, but the idea that the NBA is out to get its marquee players and marquee teams is comical.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

It's easy to think Lue is whining here.

Watch Lebron closely, though. For a superstar, officials let a ton of contact go. I think the Shaq comparison is apt. If Lebron responded more to contact, I think psychologically the refs would call more. Because he just plows through a lot of fouls, refs swallow their whistles.

I challenge you, watch every Lebron inside possession for the next 2-3 games. I think you'll have a different appreciation for the guy, even if you still root against him.

Lue is correct. I think James gets fouled a lot and it isnt called. However, Lebron also fouls a ton.

Nearly half his drives to the basket see him clear out with his arm and there is never a call. Also when he "engages" on D. He pretty much just fouls at a crazy rate and things arent called.

Lebron doesnt get as many calls as its made out to be, but hes not some sort of victim here.

So Lue using so Jedi mind trick here.  Detroit making point that Lebron is not "reffed" same way as other players.  Lue comes up with this.

Only person EVER I've seen in nba get this sort of treatment was Jordan.  Imagine bird and magic getting wwf calls like those two!

everything you said.

over the years of watching this guy I don't know what I hate more the extending of the arm(because it's become highly prevalent in a lot of players game these days)? or the fact that his teams take on his motto of just foul on every play 'they can't or won't call everything.

the nba refs are the worst of all sports, they need to overhaul the whole system. they are a part of the game in a way they shouldn't be....more like they're trying to sell themselves & trying to get their own shoe contracts, trading cards & posters.

I don't feel sorry for Lebron. he's not a finesse player. He tries to impose his will by being physically stronger and more athletic. So he should expect the contact when he goes into the lane.

It's sort of the same thing with Smart but Smart is not athletic enough. Guys who go in hard to the hoop should expect contact and possibly no whistles. Lebron is just being a baby.

Only Kobe and MJ have gotten the NBA HELP from the refs  like LeBron .

LeBron is most likey the biggest whiner and recipient of favorable calls in the league history . I been watching for decades .   The obvious favoritism is hard to deny.

But.......I do see LESS. Stuff going LeBrons way than years past ......I believe he is beginning to fall out of favor as the Golden Goose of the NBA .  With other stars deserving the special treatment

LeBron is the LAST person who, should moan and cry about refs and calls .....he has owned the league in his back pocket for YEARs

LeBron realizes he needs the majority of the calls to beat the Raptors , Spurs or Warrirs.

Eh, I've watched most of the Pistons/Cavs series so far, and I credit the refs both in that series and our series with letting them play physically, which benefits Detroit, specifically Drummond and Morris, more than Cleveland in my mind. I think that has more to do with it than any unfair treatment that he gets from the refs, especially due to the fact that he hardly ever gets fouls called on him defensively, which greatly outweigh any fouls that don't get called for him.

  • That's turrible
This isn't LeBron's league anymore. It's Curry's/GSW's. His reign over the league and refs is ending. If we make the second round I feel less scared about facin them due to this and lack of chemistry amongst the team. Too much entitlement.
