I really wanted some kind of a deal to bring in more talent, be it Al Horford or some mystery star. I think this team could really compete with the right addition right now and I think without, it's doomed to a 2nd round exit (although, if things break right, an ECF appearance could be in the cards).

That said, I'm glad we didn't waste valuable assets overpaying for someone. These draft picks and young players are supposed to be what is going to remake the franchise for the future. Throwing them all away on one big deal wouldn't be worth the hard work and patience it's taken to compile them and get us to where we are now. Having the assets is only half of the equation. The team has to use them right. Blowing it all prematurely would be just as bad as never having had them at all.

Good on Ainge for not throwing too much at someone that might be available again this summer for less.

I was for a low cost rental player to push Cavs and Raptors but it didn't happen. I just see the plethora of picks and say why not. I suppose if you can't win you really shouldn't be doing moves like that anyways. For me I got caught up in the trade deadline rush. It is best to just keep stocking up for a star to add.

I know we can add someone now if we want, but I think our biggest concern is more about clogging our roster than it is overpaying.  Let's say we got Brook Lopez or Greg Monroe - they're nice players, not bad, but are we really winning a championship with their injury history (Lopez) or lack of defense (both)? Even if we just gave up peanuts for either, just having them on the team isn't going to help us beat any of the elite teams in the playoffs.  They probably won't make even a one game difference.

Horford seems like the most likely guy to take us to the next step, but I mean we're going to be paying him $30 million when he's 36 years old?  That seems to narrow our window right there.

I agree. I mean its good to try to make a deeper run, but if we do manage to get past first round without the marquee player, any free agent player may look at our team the same way they did last year, "if I had just joined, could we have possibly gone to the ECF?"

I think in basketball there are plenty of runs and momentum involved. Being able to make a run, or being able to spark the right momentum to get the stops is extremely vital to any teams success. I think we'll definitely be one of the teams vying for plenty of players interest.
