we missed winslow but we got all star isaiah-please go back and watch his highlites for  the season, ,where it lasts more than a few clips, its like fireworks building to a crescendo-every twist, turn feint, the different change of direction, pace and pullups or dagger threes
the contortion to score inside and the ability to endure the pain-
he can be subtle or explosive or frustrating ,humilating and taunting
isaiah is now a celtic for history
-he is one of the gifts of being a celtic fan
and don't forget that out of bounds move and cheeky grin--

also like to point out that while we tend to rag on DA for his draft misses we have 4 of our own picks contributing nightly to this teams success:

with the exception of Smart all were mid to late first round choices.

isaiah is so important for alot of us  young or old that with every fiber in our body  love or loved basketball and wanted to be an all star, some of us were in high school or college, some went down with injuries and some didn't have the height or genius that magic he has
isaiah is more than an all  star but a inspiration also-all the hard work ,pain and being told your too short-
i'm still drawn at 69, to a bouncing ball or the squeek of trainers on a hardwood court, the swish of all net or the sound of that outdoor chain net-,the sweat of outdoor ball in summer ,picking pebbles out of your palm and those scraped knees
i would dribble to school, fake at fire hydrants ,run the dunes of craines beach with ankle weights or the bleachers
i still remember the first time i touched the rim, even better first real dunk-
i was too skinny and i didn't give up but my knee betrayed me-
i went to loscy camps was coached by rollie massimino and captain, made all bay state tournament middlesex all star team, honorable mention all state, semi finalst tech tourney, played against cousy and at camps some of the northeastern guys who got drafted into nba  but my knee betrayed me and i never got to play in a mans body-so isaiah mesmerizes me and embodies that drive, desire want and love of basketball that happens on every court whether one on one, three on three after school organized or not--isaiah did it and thanks for that

  • That's turrible
I'm not even an athlete. I'm mostly a musician that just loves basketball, but Isaiah's whole story is something that I think a lot of people from all walks of life can relate to.

go back to one of your games one on one, three on three and remember a move or shot or pass and at that moment you were that good-it could even have been a mid range jumper ,where everything was in sync  and all net or a bank shot you called-i had one like that on beacon hill 10years after my injury
there  was a kid shootin around, as i walked by, i asked can i take a shot-he wasn't good  a little goopy and i didn't go out deep but just took a midrange but went up in like slow motion i still remember the blue sky, weird court and everything was right rotation of ball follow through and the ball hit nothing but net-the goopy kid saw it and applauded and he goes another -i just rolled the ball to him and walked off
-i was finally released from all my basketball regrets the missed shot in state tournament the fatefull night i went down-  it never would have happened if i tried to show off or hit the long shot-everything in harmony even the solitary goopy kid just shootin hoops and his clapping  -he saw it that moment of harmony and release

Rollie continues to prove he is one of the top basketball bloggers on this forum. He can break down each player. He seems to neither condemn players (except for Lee) nor does he give an over the top Tommy Heinsohn analysis.

Isaiah Thomas makes one wonder how the Patriots would have done if they'd gone with Flutie when he was young and built an offensive line around him. They said he was too short, etc..

Rooting for Pressey probably makes me look like an idiot. But for some reason all these other young players were allowed to get away with mistakes. Pressey was as young as any of them and he quite often was the only thing keeping us together for rhythm.

Basketball is like a well-produced movie. It looks great. None of us watched the rehearsals, the rewrites, and all the sweat put into the final product.

The bottom line is what Rollie says above. Isaiah does things on the court few can do. It doesn't matter that he is small on offense. Everyone agrees on that. And if we look back on how Pressey was able to terrorize the opposition when he was on defense, and that Isaiah has the same speed and BB IQ as Pressey if not more so, then we should have faith that Isaiah Thomas can be one of our Big Three of the future.

Or maybe it will be a Big Five. Maybe guys like Isaiah and Jae simply have ceilings that prevent them from Big Three type inclusion. But turn that into a Big Five or Big Eight, in the tradition of Celtics teamwork, and we could be that Pistons type champion that wins it all despite not having one of the few transcendent stars like LeBron or Curry.

We could possibly make a big move and speed everything up, but then we would have to relinquish a lot of "the assets" Danny has magically accumulated since blowing up the last era.

I don't think Danny wants to do that unless he can get younger stars like KG and Ray. The problem with that is younger stars cost a lot more than older stars approaching the end of their prime years.

And I see Danny has come up again with his obligatory mid-season we are not as good as it seems speech. Danny agrees with us that the team is fun, but that it's just not that easy to make the next level. He warns that this is when GM's tend to make mistakes. They want so much to boost a team from treadmill to champion contender, that they basically gut their team or otherwise make things worse due to impatience.

The NBA is a brutal league and I appreciate Rollie reminding us of how many people have actually played basketball and never so-called made it. There are so many factors involved. This is not really a sport to follow for half a year or by the year. Perhaps it should be seen in regards to two or three year chunks.

We are finishing up the first 2-3 year chunk. I think Danny might want to ride with this team for the whole year and see if it can win 50 games. I expect some minor tinkering. Trading Sully and/or Turner to me would be such a move.

It is all speculation. There's no point in anyone's stomach churning. We are a 45-50 win team right now. We are trying to show we are the Toronto or Washington of last year. That is not a treadmill. It is about getting the same results of those teams but with a much brighter future. I might be downplaying Toronto as a team.

Danny doesn't think we can win a title this year. I disagree. The odds are low, but I think by the end of the year we will be top ten NBA team. It will be accomplished on the backs of young players such as Isaiah, Avery, Jae and Kelly, players who are just starting to assert themselves. That is an amazing core Danny has put together.

I am not upset the Lee trade failed. I am happy with the Amir trade. This could end up like the Big Baby season the year KG got injured. No one thought we had a chance to win it all, but despite not winning it all, that team was fun and took us on a good ride, same as this season seems to be shaping up.

I loved pickup hoops or driveway 1on1 2on2 3on3's,horse...all of it.  My knees finally made it impossible to play a full court game in my 30's.  I remember the last game I played vividly though.  I was struggling pretty badly, but I made one of the nicest passes of my life.  I was positioned with my back to the hoop at the left corner of the foul line.  As I received a pass I saw a teammate cutting to the hoop past his man.  I made a no look over the shoulder touch pass and hit the cutter in stride for a layup.  I figured I should "retire" on that note!  I can still shoot it all right if I get warmed up, but that's about it.  I do miss playing though.
