I became a Celtics fan when I was nine. They won the title when I was 15. It was only a 6 year odyssey for me. so maybe I'm a little more desensitized to it all than most, ecspecially those who suffered through the nineties (I'm so sorry).
But I will say that the 8 and a half year gap without a title has made me reflect on how special 2008 was. If we somehow miraculously won it all this year it wouldn't be nearly as special. It would be special in the sense that we would be the biggest underdogs ever to win it, but the players we have here now just really don't do it for me to be honest. I mean that 2008 team had balls, charisma, guts, and a cast of characters for sure. Teams like that come along once in a blue moon.
Title runs are fun and all but there's so many other reasons why I follow the team. The tradition, the heart our players show, their development, the excitement of rumors, the buzz of the draft, just the fact that watching each game is a new experience. That's why I love basketball. You see something every game you've never seen before.
As long as we never sink as low as Brooklyn, I'd be content if they never won another title in my time. Contents not the right word, but like I said there are plenty of reasons to watch other than titles.
