The power of having young stars / potential stars already on your roster.

This would be wonderful if the Knicks miss out on Monroe, Love, Chandler, Ellis, Dragic , and Aldridge. Add to that the drafting of Porzingis and Melo is going to ask out much earlier than the trade deadline.

For better or worse, Bulpett says Ainge hasn't even contacted Monroe.  So, you can't say that those teams are more attractive.

And how are people going to feel about Ainge if LA and NY whiff on all the big free agents.

31 year old Melo becoming available for trade would be awesome for the Celts.  Exactly the kind of star you might be able to get for a pu pu platter.  And heading into free agency next summer with Melo on board could actually make the Celts competitive for guys who can vault the team to contention, or something close to it.

There's also been little indication that Monroe was ever particularly interested in Boston except as a fallback option.

Exactly. I totally see us going all in to trade for him, and the Knicks, lacking draft picks and young players, should jump on our assets.

This team's nucleus plus Melo would be a sneakily good playoff team right away in a weak Eastern Conference. Lot of defenders. Rebounds. Floor spacers. Ball movers.

The types of glue guys who make Melo look good and allow him to do what he does best.

PG: Smart, Thomas
SG: Bradley, (Smart)
SF: Melo, Crowder
PF: Sully, Olynyk
 C: Amir, T.Zeller

A good playoff showing with a star like Melo would go a long to convincing a 2nd star to join.

Except where we forget that Melo has a no trade clause, so its up to Melo to decide whether or not he wants to leave the Knicks where hes marketing himself, and providing media coverage/spotlight for his wife and himself.

I always thought when Jackson was proclaiming the need to not draft players who want to 'brand,' themselves, I felt that was a veiled insult to Melo. Who has tried to expand his ventures outside of basketball, and more into marketing himself as a mogul and businessman.

Definitely have to agree. If we could land DMC too?

Wow.

The only question is how much the Knicks would in return for Melo.

He's already hinted a number of times that he's p---ed with Phil Jackson and the Knicks and may ask out soon. He would be the one to ask them to move him, no need to worry about the no-trade clause.

He just had knee surgery and doesn't run the floor like he used to. I would be hesitant and wait til the deadline to make a move like that, see how old he looks...

Disagree. You guys don't understand what Melo is trying to build for himself. He understands basketball isn't forever. I was watching a video where Melo is talking about business ventures, and different subjective options open on the horizon for him and his family. His wife, Lala Vasquez, loves it in New York.

Melo stated family, money, and rings were all things considered when re-signing. I don't know if Melo would ask to be traded immediately after one or two or even three years. That's a hasty decision to make, and one his wife who stressed the idea of staying in New York, would probably find hard to stomach.

Pretty sure Ainge will evaluate that to his best of knowledge. I trust Ainge even though I'm disappointed this year.

I think Wyc needs to stop talking about fireworks as if its a lure for fans. Celtics have one of the most loyal fanbases.

A Jimmy Butler for Carmelo Anthony mid-season trade ...

... Sacramento could make a run at Melo to team him up with DMC. Trade Rudy Gay and picks. Keep WCS and McLemore as glue guys. That would be a dangerous group.

Yep, I see a lot of teams with better players to offer than us. This is the problem. Yes we have picks and assets, but they aren't that valuable. Now if the Dallas/Nets turn into lottery picks, oh baby we are talking!  ;D
